Supporting our local communities is a part of our Stewart DNA. We are committed to supporting organizations that are eradicating hunger across the United States and have partnered with two organizations blazing the trail of eliminating food insecurity. Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States. Through a network of more than 200 food banks, 21 statewide food bank associations, and over 60,000 partner agencies, food pantries and meal programs, they help provide billions of meals around the country. Our longtime partner Houston Food Bank is now the largest food bank in the world and distributes more than two hundred million dollars of food each year to over 800,000 recipients. We are proud to share that our donations to these two incredible organizations are providing 575,000 meals to people across the United States and in Houston. Providing our neighbors with nutritious food is one of the many ways we do this. We thank our teams across the country for helping us give back through donations and volunteering at their local food banks. On National Food Bank Day, we hope you will consider donating to and volunteering at your local food bank. Ahead of Sunday's #SuperBowl, here's a look at how U.S. Food Waste Pact signatory Aramark helps reduce #foodwaste at the #KansasCityChiefs stadium in KC. Says Aramark's Tim Witkowski: “Although our goal is always to eliminate food waste before it is generated, there may still be instances when we have excess safe-to-eat food available. Our food donation program provides this food to hunger relief agencies, like Pete's Garden, who distribute meals to organizations that serve families with children. We donate thousands of pounds of food each year, which helps feed families in the Kansas City community and keeps surplus prepared food out of landfills.” If you're hosting family and friends for the game, make sure you've got a plan to keep the food you serve from going to waste – only serve what you know will get eaten, have plenty of containers for people to take food home with them, and make sure you've got space in your refrigerator or freezer for leftovers 👍 https://lnkd.in/eNqPp6f3

Do you have any spare cans or dry goods in your pantry? Conversely, are you currently having a hard time getting food on the table? I’ve been getting more involved in mutual aid in ATX and was *so happy* to learn about ATXFreeFridge, a community-led project to help get necessary sustenance to people with food insecurity. The fridges are in easily accessible places around town, and volunteers help clean out the fridges and keep them tidy- all spots also have food pantry shelves! Donors can bring pantry staples, produce, and even pre-cooked meals as long as they are in labeled containers. ✨SO here’s a call to action- ✨ if you have some extra food (or even an extra $10 to get a few extra cans and bags of rice with), please consider looking at mutual aid options in your own community and taking the time to donate. And if you *need* food, your community may be a helpful resource to lean on in this time.

❔❔Did You Know....❔❔ Our donations are made possible because of the food rescue programs larger organizations like Midwest Food Bank manage so that we can feed our community. 🌿 Donated items come in the form of: Close-dated items: Products that are close to their expiration date and don't have enough time to reach store shelves. Overruns: Extra products made beyond what was forecasted, often cheaper to keep the production line running. Mislabeled items: Products with packaging errors, like missing ingredients or allergen information. Relabeling is too costly, but we have the volunteer resources to repack and relabel these items. Damaged or discontinued goods: Items with damaged packaging or products that are no longer sold in stores. -Midwest Food Bank: How Midwest Food Bank and Our Partners Fight Food Waste Together You can donate too! Did you know that instead of purchasing food at retail rates, we collaborate with the California Association of Food Banks, major retailers, USDA government assistance programs, growers, distributors and fellow food banks to secure wholesome food? When you contribute financially, you enable us to offer a greater quantity of nutritious groceries compared to donating store-bought food. 🥑 Thanks to our capacity to harness large-scale food donations, bulk purchasing capabilities, and the dedication of volunteers, every $1 donation empowers us to supply enough food for two meals. Help us fill tables this holiday season and beyond. If we can raise $1,000,000 from our community between now and December 25, The Benificus Foundation will match the amount. Did you know that 1 in 8 Americans experience food insecurity while more than $200 billion is spent on food that will never be eaten? That’s billions of pounds of food wasted instead of going to those who need it. Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) aims to redistribute excess food to people experiencing food insecurity. RLC makes it easy for businesses to donate their excess food to their community and provides a reliable, professional food rescue service for our partners at an efficient cost. Join us at the Rescuing Leftover Cuisine Gala 2024 as we unite to end food insecurity. If you cannot attend, please donate to support the cause. This winter more people than ever are being driven to food banks and the sharp increase in people needing help is outstripping food donations. Donations are vital to ensure food banks can continue to help everyone referred to them. How to donate food 1. Donate directly to your local food bank. 2. Or by hosting a food drive. Items to donate It’s best to check on your local food bank’s website or social media to see which items they need most. In our 2023 Annual Report, we take a look at trends at FISH over the past few years, particularly comparing pre-pandemic numbers to today. What we are seeing is continued growth in need, as the high cost of living paired with fewer support resources adds more and more strain for families. One area in which we have seen considerable increases is the pounds of food we distribute each year. In 2023, FISH distributed 1,560,603 pounds of food, more than any other year in our history as an organization. Our marketplace could not run without the generous support of our community. We source food from four main sources: donations from our Broomfield grocery stores and restaurant partners, Community Food Share, in-kind donations from our neighbors (which includes food drives!), and purchased food made possible by our incredible donors and by grant funding. All of these support networks allow us to stock a variety of food and personal care items for our families so they can shop for what their families need.
