In addition to being a vital connection and calming presence for the caller in crisis, they also protect their first responders, warning them of danger, and getting the right asset in the right place at the right time. And not just once or twice, but over and over again It takes compassion and street smarts and quick thinking and just plain guts to stay composed while experiencing harrowing experiences alongside callers; it takes emotional toughness to be that voice of reason for every call, every shift, week in and week out, 365 days a year
