🎌 No, these aren't tiny flags from some microscopic country! 🧐 You’re actually looking at 4 beautifully crafted lamellae for Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Each one was meticulously prepared using our new Helios 5CX Thermo Fisher Scientific system, harnessing the power of semiautomatic magic. ⚡ It took us just 5 hours of focused ion beam (FIB) wizardry to slice through complex multi-layer coatings and create these masterpieces for HR-TEM. It was a pleasure to host Prof. Rostislav Daniel, Associate Professor from Montanuniversität Leoben and expert in PVD deposition technologies. Prof. Daniel has dramatically supported our Materials Science and Technology group at Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile, Informatica e delle Tecnologie Aeronautiche in advancing our knowledge and innovative use of the PVD system in our lab. He also delivered a highly insightful seminar on the design possibilities of PVD coatings for multi-functionality, focusing on the influence of process parameters and microstructural considerations. Working with Rostislav has been a wonderful experience—he’s a brilliant researcher and a great friend of our team. #PVD #materials #innovation #RomaTre #research #collaboration

The Materials Science and Technology group from Roma Tre University participated in NanoInnovation 2024 (September 9-13). Prof. Marco Sebastiani chaired the "Stress in Thin Films" session, which covered advanced techniques and recent findings. Edoardo Rossi presented novel approaches for residual stress characterization in nano-structured coatings via #FocusedIonBeam technologies, and Saqib Rashid discussed new results into stress measurement in micro- and nano-devices (MEMS). Both contributions are part of the nanoMECommons project.
