The StxTherm Robust external wall insulation (EWI) system was specified for a major refurbishment of 1950s social homes in Long Lawford and Rokeby, making them more energy efficient and cheaper to heat. The EWI system was installed by Green Homes Solutions. Director Johnny Carlin (Junior) said: “The Sto EWI system was ideal for this type of refurbishment, providing a very cost-effective solution without comprising on quality. StxTherm Robust will maximise each home’s thermal performance while protecting the building’s fabric, helping tenants to save on their energy bills and providing an enhanced environment inside and out.” The project was funded by the Government's Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) and Rugby Borough Council, with the local authority joining forces with E.ON to make the improvements to the homes. We are proud to have been selected as one of two heat pump providers to bring low carbon, sustainable heating to residents living in the Arrowfield estate. NIBE’s high quality, reliable heat pump systems provide optimum savings and automatically adapt to each home’s output requirements. The Arrowfield Low Carbon Living Project represents an early and ambitious retrofit of a south Manchester neighbourhood that will reduce the estate’s carbon footprint by as much as 50%. Southway is replacing 396 of Arrowfield’s inefficient gas boilers in-line with long term government plans to electrify heat and will also improve the fabric of homes to make them more energy efficient. 112 NIBE F2040 Air Source Heat Pumps were installed, contributing to the project eliminating 370 tonnes of C02 per year in Arrowfield. The scale of the project, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), has made it one of the UK’s biggest home retrofit schemes. Within England the government has set a target that Social Housing providers MUST reach an EPC (energy performance certificate) rating of C within their housing stock by 2030 and be fully Net Zero by 2050. The Scottish government has applied stricter targets with all Social Housing stock to reach an EPC of B by the end of December 2035 and fully Net Zero by 2045. When you consider the cost of this project and the added pressure of Awaab’s Law / Fitness for Human Habitation Act. The importance of providing residents with better indoor air quality starts to become relavent. Vent -Axia the UK’s leading manufacturer of ventilation solutions can provide our Social Housing clients with a robust cost effective single room heat recovery solution. HeatSave a single room heat recovery unit that offers up to 84% heat recovery whilst removing the need for complex, costly and time consuming duct runs within the retrofit sector. We have been talking a lot about becoming carbon neutral and many of my clients have been chatting about ways in which they can reduce energy costs for a more sustainable future. With constant priceing hikes, buying materials for your business can be costly if you don't do it right. I can highly recommend NorDan UK Ltd and their products. On another note... I have a connection looking for solar panels to be used on top of an industrial unit, can anyone recommend a trustworthy company? #recommendation #yourthoughts #networking

In further disappointing energy efficiency news, today's Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) figures are woeful. 3,284 households supported up until the end of December - less than 10% of the 2023/24 target and barely more than 1% towards the scheme goal. GBIS should be a much-needed way to support large numbers of low-medium income homes that deserve a helping hand but aren't eligible for the full multi-measure retrofit of ECO or HUG. We need to get things moving! The Connected for Warmth scheme (https://lnkd.in/e9QPBVEs) that AgilityEco runs in partnership with Affordable Warmth Solutions CIC (and with generous funding from National Grid) has already installed cavity wall and loft insulation into more homes than this. Our secret? A rock solid supply chain, proportionate quality standards and the easiest possible customer journey. Stats from: https://lnkd.in/eTAJyibH #GBIS

🏠 SHDF 2.1 Project Profile: Rykneld Homes 🏠 In the second of our SHDF Project Profile series, we look at how we continue to deliver decarbonisation at scale as the appointed delivery partner of Rykneld Homes Ltd on one of the largest SHDF Wave 2 funded schemes in England. The £22m multi-measure scheme, delivered to the latest PAS standards on behalf of North East Derbyshire District Council (NEDDC), represented a further consolidation of the long standing and award winning relationship between SBS and Rykneld Homes – together we recently won the Unlock Net Zero Retrofit Decarbonisation Collaboration of the Year 2024. Procured through the EEM framework, the £22m project featured a range of challenging non-traditional archetypes with over 430 of the 640 properties already seeing the benefits of measures such as external wall insulation and replacement windows. The lives of 1,600 people are estimated to improve, with over 966 thousand kilogrammes of CO₂ emissions and over 4.4 million kWh expected to be saved each year as a result of the work. 🌱 Read more in our case study on the project here: https://lnkd.in/e38vneg4 Get in touch with us today via SHDF@sustainablebuildinguk.com to talk to us about your Wave 3 ‘Strategic Partnership’ or ‘Challenge Fund’ applications. #SHDF #SHDFWave3 #RetrofitDecarbonisation #Housing #Sustainability #NetZero

This image really does give an appreciation of the scale of our new, sustainable community in Granton and the power of innovation… A domestic air-source heat pump is usually 1/1.5m high and 0.5m/1m wide. They are becoming more and more common place around the country - we recognise them now more than ever - but district heating? What does that look like? Well.. ours are a little bigger at roughly 4.5m high and 3m wide… and we don’t just have one. We have 10 that connect to a series of water pumps and a vast insulated pipe network to power our West Shore properties and 388 more as part of the ‘Western Villages’ masterplan. It’s big. It’s powerful. And because it’s a non-polluting system, its future-proofed too. It is great to see the progress being made at the Western Villages Masterplan in north Edinburgh. Forming part of the £1.3bn Granton Waterfront Regeneration, the mixed-tenure development comprises 388 homes for rent for The City of Edinburgh Council and 56 newly launched homes for sale for CCG Homes Ltd designed to achieve regulated operational net zero carbon. Construction is being led by CCG (Scotland) Ltd and the Arc-Tech (Scotland) team will continue to offer much valued support as the development moves towards its completion in 2025. Our breadth of services includes the design and installation of one of the largest zero direct emissions district heating systems of its kind anywhere in the UK, as well as solar PV panel systems to each apartment block and all associated fire suppression services. Our hugely innvoative heating system has been designed and installed in partnership with Hawthorne Boyle Ltd and support from Arc-Tech MU Ltd. It comprises 10, industrial scale air-source heat pumps, and 8 water-to-water pumps that combine at one centralised source at a purpose-built energy centre located within the boundary of the masterplan. Check it out in the image below.... 📸 Brian Mitchell #construction #constructionindustry #buildingservices #renewableservices #mechanical #electrical #districtheating #zeroemissions #zerodirectemissions #netzerocarbon #housing #regeneration #Edinburgh

Retrofitting older homes emerges as a critical strategy as the UK races against the clock to meet its carbon goals, explains Trevor Wilkins, managing director at PAH Building & Construction in PBC Today. According to Green Alliance, at least 15 million homes in the UK need to be retrofitted by 2030 to meet the UK's carbon targets, highlighting the importance of futureproofing our existing housing stock. Delivering an effective nationwide retrofit initiative would nearly triple the UK's current rate of energy efficiency, reducing household bills while lessening the power grid's carbon footprint. Arch Tech. & Berrys ESG Committee Member - "A sustainably minded designer, obsessed with passivhaus and innovative design” We can and should do better.
👑📣 "Turbocharging housebuilding", Great British Energy, Great British Rail, Metro mayors with local bus service control, improved powers for water regulators and renters reform <- Great headlines and all steps in the right direction to help transition to cleaner transport networks, sustainable infrastructure and better quality, more affordable housing. The #KingsSpeech delivering much of what was speculated, with lots of opportunities for clean sustainable growth if the new government get this right. I'm feeling really optimistic and ready to see words turned into action. Architecturally, environmentally and personally speaking: . I hope to see a gradual move to follow the Scottish in mandating a passivhaus equivalent to new buildings, whilst upskilling the nations workforce and understanding of these principals. A review into EPCs would also be welcome. . I'd like to see a retrofit grant funding/green loan at very low rates to allow people to access retrofit/enerphit reports, insulation funding and access to solar pv and battery storage. . I'd like to see a review and refocus on thinking of our transport links and infrastructure to encourage more cycling and use of public services - trains and buses that aren't cancelled, run on time and don't cost the earth. Utilise the Oyster card system for fixed price day trips and or monthly membership that allows 'all you can travel' transport. What do you think about the Kings speech?
