Post completion of the remediation contract with HBD during 2024, Mitchell Design and Construction Ltd are pleased to announce the commencement of the main contract works with HBD and their JV partner Feldberg Capital at INTER, Tewin Road, Welwyn Garden City. “ORIGIN” is the new partnership that will bring forward high specification, sustainable, speculative industrial logistic units to the market place throughout the UK. Welwyn Garden City is one of the first schemes to be constructed under this joint venture. The contract is to build a new 6,619m2 industrial logistics building, sub divided into 3 units, each with their own self-contained fully fitted offices. The units will become available during Q4 2025. This landmark mass-timber, two-storey facility provides a cutting-edge base for day-to-day operations at NMP. 🌍✨. Designed by Searle x Waldron Architecture, this project pushes the boundaries of sustainability and innovation. The depot boasts over 300 timber members stick-built on-site, alongside 150,000 locally sourced recycled bricks 🧱. With an expansive solar panel array 🌞 and a rainwater harvesting system 💧, this project takes sustainability to new heights, minimising environmental impact while maximising operational efficiency. 🌱 Mass timber plays a key role in the building’s design, reflecting GMCT’s aim to reduce its environmental footprint. 🌍 Not Every Meeting Achieves the Initial Goal—But It Can Still Be Valuable 🏗️ This week, we met with a potential client whose vans, scaffolding, and cranes are a familiar sight across Scotland and the North of England. Having been involved in the construction of some of Manchester, Glasgow, and Leeds’ most iconic buildings, their work has helped shape the urban landscape for over 15 years. As their focus is on fitting and managing projects—using designs developed by external teams—they aren’t currently eligible for R&D relief or grants. However, through our discussions, we identified potential routes to complement their strategic inward investment.
