Odour assessments are required if you are developing a residential or commercial site where a nearby odorous process may impact the occupants. Planning authorities will require developers to ensure that future occupants are not adversely affected by odour. A case study this week from our Air Quality team demonstrating how we supported one such planning application. This was led by Adam Glass. 5 ST. ANDREWS STREET, CAMBRIDGE We were commissioned by SME CORPORATION (2) LIMITED to undertake an odour risk assessment for the planning application for the proposed change of use retail premises at 5 St Andrews Street, Cambridge, to a KFC mixed restaurant and hot food takeaway serving southern fried chicken style food. Housed within a grade II listed building, the installation of an external flue would not be permitted. Our odour assessment and proposed mitigation measures followed the guidance presented in the EMAQ+ Guidance for the Control of Odour and Noise from Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Systems.
