Fireplaces are a powerful energy source in our homes. Increase their ability to attract luck and good fortune with these Feng Shui tips: - Include glazed tile - The smooth surface of glazed tile increases the movement of energy. Enhance the fire element with this beautiful design choice. - Display firewood - Stack your wood vertically to maximize the power of your fireplace. It also adds a lovely architectural feature that connects to nature. - Soften with books - Soften the fire energy by placing bookshelves on either side of the fireplace. It slows down the energy and brings a sense of harmony to the space. - Cure the corner - Energy becomes stagnant in the corners of our home where it's unable to flow. Fireplaces stir up this energy and increase the flow. Context is everything. Drawing inspiration from the mid-century housing stock of the neighborhood, this residence is designed in the context of its neighborhood, region, and climate. The sculptural saw-tooth roofs not only pay homage to the original mid-century housing stock of the neighborhood, but also serve a practical purpose, responding to the sun path. A roof that maximizes shade also by nature maximizes potential for solar energy collection; the solar array (re-used from the previous home on this site) is discreetly placed as to be almost invisible. Modern lines and sensibilities are tempered by natural finishes, like the bare wood floors and smooth, plaster-like stucco that displays the work of the hands that made it. The distinctive ribbon windows provide gentle, diffuse clerestory lighting, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere for rest and relaxation. In every aspect, this home is a testament to the importance of thoughtful design and integration with nature. It's not just a dwelling; it's a sanctuary where modern comfort meets timeless elegance, and where every sunset is a reminder of the beauty of living in harmony with our environment. #MidCenturyArchitecture #SustainableLiving #SolarEfficiency #ArchitecturalContext #AustinHomes #HarmonyWithNature

What's your favorite thing about your house? One of my favorite things about renovating is working with what you've already got. In each our our homes, we've used those special characteristics and challenges to make the house unique. But even if you're not renovating, the idea is the same. Take that uniqueness and let it shine. Got a cool architectural corner? Play it up! Working with avocado green shower tiles (raises hand)?
