Before Christmas, a US policeman was called to a shop to arrest a family that hadn't scanned all their groceries. They told him they didn't have enough money to make a Christmas dinner for their children. He let them off with a warning and then used his own money to purchase them a gift card so they could buy what they needed for their Christmas dinner. Take inspiration from this story, and improve your life in 2021 by helping someone. Feeling that we make a difference is the single factor that most positively affects our image of ourselves. The effect is strongest if we can directly see the difference we make. That's why contributing time to a homeless shelter improves your life more than donating money to an abstract cause. Recently, a conversation with a dedicated volunteer at our Charity Shop highlighted an important opportunity: the need for toy donations in the days leading up to Christmas. Every year, we see families searching for toys for their little ones just before the holidays. Unfortunately, the shelves are often empty, as many generous donations arrive only after Christmas. If you know that your child will be receiving gifts from Father Christmas this year, consider taking a moment to declutter and donate their old toys before the holiday rush. By doing so, you not only create space for new memories in your home but also help ensure that another child experiences the joy of receiving a gift during this special time. To most of us, a bed is something that we cozy into each night... for the families that we are serving, this is something that they cannot even imagine, that they would be able to get off the floor and into a bed. Beds are one of the most critical items we provide, bringing comfort, security, and dignity to families emerging from crisis. Right now, we have a backlog of families who desperately need beds—a place for their children to sleep safely and comfortably. If you were to visit our warehouse today, you’d see rows of beds, but here’s the reality: every single one of them is already spoken for. We're grateful for the generous donations we receive, but the need far outweighs what we currently have.
