🏙️ New York’s high-rise buildings define the city’s iconic skyline. But did you know that many of these buildings are designed to waste heat into thin air? 🏙️ 🌀 Many of NYC’s 12,000 high-rise buildings were built before the invention of modern HVAC systems. Wasted energy was a necessary byproduct of utilizing conventional systems to condition indoor spaces. But new advancements in heat pump technology can provide substantial opportunities to retrofit these buildings and prevent wasted heat. ⭐️ In our latest research, conducted with @NYSERDA, we use public data on city buildings to explore several heat recovery retrofit solutions. Some of our key takeaways: ● Many of NYC’s 12,000 high-rise buildings are candidates for heat recovery as an early step on the path to full decarbonization. ● Replacing conventional chillers with heat pumps enables buildings to share heat between different building systems and zones. ● 5,000+ buildings, many in Environmental Justice Areas, have cooling towers with wasted heat that could be recovered with a heat pump, displacing fossil fuel use, improving local air quality and reducing carbon intensity to comply with LL97. ✨Learn more about how the city can seize opportunities for heat recovery by reading our full analysis: https://lnkd.in/eXSsyE5U

What Are Energy-Efficient Windows? Energy-efficient windows are designed to minimize heat loss in winter and reduce heat gain in summer, helping to maintain a comfortable indoor climate while lowering energy costs. These windows are crafted with special coatings, multiple panes, and gas fills between the panes, making them a sustainable choice for homes and buildings. Why Choose Energy-Efficient Windows? Installing energy-efficient windows can significantly impact your energy consumption. They help reduce reliance on heating and cooling systems, leading to lower utility bills and a smaller carbon footprint. Additionally, these windows enhance the overall comfort of your living space by reducing drafts and outside noise. How Do Energy-Efficient Windows Work? Energy-efficient windows work primarily through their design and materials: 1. Low-E Coatings: These invisible coatings reflect heat back into your home during winter and block out the sun’s heat during summer. 2. Multiple Panes: Double or triple glazing creates insulation that keeps your indoor environment stable. 3. Gas Fill: Argon or krypton gas fills the space between the panes, providing additional insulation. Benefits Beyond Energy Savings Besides cost savings, energy-efficient windows can improve your home's value and curb appeal. They are often a feature in sustainable building practices, aligning with eco-friendly living principles. To learn more about how we are applying energy-efficient windows and other sustainable practices at our self-sustainable city project, read our blog articles at https://lnkd.in/gU3nFcHh Relevant Hashtags: #EnergyEfficientWindows #SustainableLiving #EcoFriendly #HomeImprovement #GreenBuilding #EnergySavings #SustainableCities #ComfortLiving

"Combating Urban Heat: Sustainable Solutions for AC Heat Dissipation in Metro Cities" In our rapidly urbanizing metro cities, we're witnessing an ever-increasing demand for air conditioning—whether in our homes or vehicles. However, a significant consequence of this demand is the increased heat dissipation from AC units, particularly noticeable in outdoor environments and cars. As these systems work to cool our interiors, they expel heat into the atmosphere, exacerbating urban heat island effects and driving up ambient temperatures. This creates a vicious cycle where higher temperatures lead to more AC use, further increasing heat dissipation. To mitigate this issue, we must consider a combination of innovative technology and proactive measures: Energy-Efficient AC Units: Invest in AC systems with higher energy efficiency ratings. Modern units are designed to consume less power and emit less heat. Green Roofing and Walls: Implementing green roofs and walls can significantly reduce the heat absorption of buildings, helping to keep the surrounding areas cooler. Shaded Parking: Encourage the use of shaded or covered parking to keep vehicles cool, reducing the load on car AC systems when they are started. Reflective Building Materials: Use materials with high reflectivity for building exteriors. These materials reflect more sunlight, keeping buildings cooler and reducing the heat emitted into the environment. Urban Planning: Advocate for city planning that includes more green spaces and parks. Trees and plants not only provide shade but also help in cooling the air through transpiration. Public Awareness: Educate the public on the impacts of excessive AC use and promote practices like setting AC temperatures a bit higher and using fans to circulate air. By taking these steps, we can collectively work towards a cooler, more sustainable urban environment. Let's innovate and adapt to keep our cities livable and our planet healthier. #UrbanCooling #SustainableLiving #GreenTechnology #ClimateAction
