By capturing CO₂ from biofuels used in our production, we’re exploring how to further reduce emissions and work towards climate-positive operations. This pilot aims to capture two tonnes of biogenic CO₂ per day, powered by low-temperature waste heat from the mill. 💡This initiative isn’t just about technology—it’s about leadership in sustainability and policy alignment. How to integrate CO2 sourced from Bio Energy Carbon Capture or Direct Air Capture for negative emissions into the current CO2 storage regulation framework? Yesterday, I had the honor of participating in a dynamic panel discussion on creating more robust CO2 storage regulations with Alan Haigh from the European Commission, Martin Cames from Oeko-Institut e.V. and Breanne O'Reilly from International CCS Knowledge Centre at Carbon Capture Technology Expo Europe. We delved into international best practice of regulation, missing pieces of regulation, and challenges for companies along the value chain. Here are three key points for enhancing regulation in CO2 storage and scaling the industry: • Greater international standardization and increased transparency are essential. • Increased funding, subsidies, and long-term economic incentives are necessary to encourage investment. • Staying pragmatic will enable for more speed and acceptance. Yesterday, EIT InnoEnergy attended another EU Clean Transition Dialogue alongside 4 portfolio companies GravitHy, Verkor, ecop Technologies GmbH and Skeleton Technologies. Chaired by European Commission President von der Leyen and EVP Maroš Šefčovič, the dialogue focused on how to continue strengthening competitiveness of European industry in Clean Tech sectors. 🎯 CEO of InnoEnergy, Diego Pavia outlined the clear and compelling investment case created through Europe’s robust green regulatory framework (European Climate Law, 2030 targets and FF55). To continue strengthening Europe's clean tech toolbox, we highlighted two key focus areas: 🌲 Put sustainability criteria at the core of the European market to ensure long-term competitive edge of climate tech industries and European products 💹 Further enhance our financial framework from seed to scale. Leverage public funding where it counts (early-stage), and innovate public financing instruments for later stage where heavy lifting for funding can only be achieved with private finance. We at DNV are proud of being part of the CO2 storage project Greensand and issuing our independent 3rd party certification to #INEOS and partners #harbourenergy and the “Nordsøfonden”. Why is this project important: because this is about CCS in practice and the very first offshore storage site to receive independent certification for feasibility and suitability for CO2 storage. DNV started 15 years ago to develop and issue recommend practices and a certification scheme that scrutinizes storage sites for the purpose of reducing risks to the CCS business case, safety, avoid leaks, etc. all this to ease permitting and society acceptance of CCUS. The key word “practice” aligns with our hybrid CCUS financiers event held in Copenhagen this week. The large amount of people attending is a strong statement that CCUS in more practical terms has entered the scene of scaling the industry. Green ammonia is essential in accelerating the switch to clean #energy and in #decarbonizing heavy transport. This new plant in Denmark, developed by Skovgaard Energy, Topsoe and Vestas, is one of the 60 near-zero emission plants needed by 2030, according to Mission Possible Partnership. It shows how to scale up production, and the potential for industrial clusters.
