So this is interesting... and one of the reasons why there are big benefits to the interdisciplinary work that goes on between the staff working on The Freedonia Group's market leading packaging research and on Packaged Facts' forward-looking food and beverage analysis. You get both angles. For instance, we know that consumers value the convenience and long shelf life of canned food... and while there is a packaging sustainability story to tell, it's either not getting through or factors such as the value price point of many canned goods simply matter more at this point (only 20% say they buy canned goods because they are easy to recycle). https://lnkd.in/efJHBRph

A QUESTION ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY IN FOOD MANUFACTURE Last month I was at the Sustainable Food Factory Conference in Nottingham, UK. The presentations and networking were excellent. It was also the right size too – large enough to include a good range of people and exhibitors, but not too large to be overwhelming. Plus it had a pleasant, positive and friendly atmosphere. So if you’re in food or beverage manufacture and have an interest or involvement in sustainability – I highly recommend this event. So it’s worth keeping an eye out for the dates for next year. Anyway, not surprisingly for a sustainability conference, a question I was asked a few times was “How does HPS Product Recovery Solutions technology improve sustainability?” Well, it helps companies to reduce carbon footprint and improve sustainability in a lot of ways. But I’ll try and keep the answer brief. If your food, beverage, pet food, confectionery, or just about any other liquid manufacturing process involves liquids being transferred through pipelines, HPS pigging technology will save significant amounts of product. This is product that would otherwise be wasted, or at a minimum downgraded. The savings in product usually adds up to tens, often hundreds of thousands of $ Dollars, £ Pounds or € Euros every year. As well as saving product (which is perfectly usable), pigging also saves energy, water, CiP fluids. It reduces changeover times, makes production more efficient, creates less effluent and related effluent treatment, storage, transport and disposal costs. An independent report has shown that HPS pigging technology will tangibly help companies reduce their carbon footprint. The carbon reduction varies with each system implementation and process. However it will typically add up to hundreds if not thousands of tonnes of CO2e every year. There’s more detail to it than that, but I said I’d keep the answer brief.
