“Straight Six Stu” – A True Legend on Site 👷🏼♂️ Every site has its heroes, and for us, one of the most remarkable is Stuart – or as we all affectionately call him, Straight Six Stuart. Stuart has an unmatched record, consistently achieving the highest NHBC mark of 6 on all his stage inspections. It’s not just a nickname; it’s a testament to his incredible knowledge, dedication, and commitment. He sets the bar high, and we’re all the better for it - “Anything Stu doesn’t know, ain’t worth knowing!” 🏆 What really sets Stuart apart is his energy that bounces off the entire site. His positivity when things get tough and sense drive make him a joy to work with. 🫡 Recently, Stuart’s hard work and leadership were rightfully recognised when he was made up to a ‘Black Hat’ by his managers at Roadform. It was a truely awesome moment, made even more memorable as the entire site gathered to give him a well-deserved round of applause. That collective show of appreciation speaks volumes about the impact Stuart has on everyone he works with. 🤝 Stuart, your knowledge and passion inspires me every day. Well, here’s a glimpse into my last week: - Walked 8 of our properties with Rebecca Marshall, meeting clients and main property contacts - Planned our #CBRE Property Management year-end awards luncheon - Networked with Brandon Reese from Danis about Columbus Young Professionals (CYP) Club and future speaking opportunities - Attended various vendor events with SERVPRO of Northeast Columbus, ServiceMASTER by Neverman, SCIOTO SERVICES, L.L.C. (SCIOTO, L.L.C.), Waterworks, Yellowstone Landscape - Fulfilled my IFMA Central Ohio Chapter membership drive board member duties - Judged the TOBY competition for BOMA Columbus Ohio (Official) - Attended a cider and donuts tenant event with my team for Halloween at 65 E m.State Street - Wrote proposals for potential management opportunities - Managed different HR issues - Toured potential CBRE corporate office locations downtown with our brokers I wear many hats, each day is fast-paced and totally different, and I get involved in a lot of random things. It’s a lot of 12-hour days. Efficiency is my friend. Thursday Thought: As a lettings manager in prime Central London, I've found that utilizing a blend of contemporary management models is key to creating a high-performing team. By balancing the notions of freedom and responsibility, I empower my team members to take ownership of their roles while holding them accountable for their results. This, combined with a strong personal drive and an aligned vision, fuels both individual and collective performance. It’s about creating an environment where each team member feels trusted to make decisions and driven to achieve our shared goals. Drawing inspiration from Simon Sinek's work with the Navy SEALs, I've learned that while a high trust and high skill environment is ideal, the SEALs prioritize trust over skill. This principle is something I’ve incorporated into my leadership style—building a team where trust is paramount, because in a high-pressure environment like Central London property, knowing your colleagues have your back is more valuable than any single skill. Over the years, this approach has led to some of the best results and organic growth within our department. By fostering a culture of trust, responsibility, and shared vision, we’ve not only achieved outstanding business outcomes but also developed a cohesive team that thrives on collaboration and mutual respect.
