One year ago, I stepped into the role as President and CEO of DeVry University, a place I’ve been proud to call home for 20 years. This past year has been nothing short of transformative—not just for me, but for the university and for everyone who became part of our learning community. Those who know me know that I've always believed in the power of education to change lives, but this year brought that belief into sharper focus. Every decision made has been driven by one question: How can we better serve both students and partners? From launching new AI courses at lightning speed to maintaining our commitment to affordability, it’s been a year of listening, learning, and relentless action. In a recent Q&A, I shared more about what this year has taught me: the importance of transparent communication, the urgency of innovating at pace, and the ongoing challenge of breaking down barriers to education.  It reinforced the importance of looking ahead—balancing the demands of today while making decisions that shape our future and position DeVry for what's next. If you asked your child this question today, what do you think their response would be? It is such a deep and profound question when you think about it. It something we should all be grappling with. We should be trying to make sense of who we are and what we want from this precious life we live. But if you asked your child, whatever age they may be (assuming they're old enough to comprehend it), do you think they'd be able to respond with the level of self-awareness, reflection, and thoughtfulness that the question deserves? Do you wish your child had the mindset and tools to truly ponder a question like this? Do you wish they pushed themselves to think big about their futures, their values, and their purpose? One of the major goals for us with every student we work with is for them to feel inspired to think about questions just like this. We want them to be thinking about their goals and dreams, even from a young age. This summer we will be working with a handful of students on a project we call Unlock Tomorrow, Today. We will work 1:1 with the students to think through this question and come up with a thoughtful, creative response. A response that taps into social-emotional skills, creative writing, and creative design. We're excited to share some of their work and hopefully inspire others to think about this question as well. We're even more excited to launch the Unlock Tomorrow, Today project at our partner schools this coming September and make this type of thinking more routine for students everywhere.
