How Inlet Filter Inserts Provide SWQ Inlet filters utilize a series of screens to provide treatment along with some type of hydrocarbon filtration media. The screens filter trash, bottles, cans, silt, and sediment. The hydrocarbon media filters out oil and grease. These systems are not as effective as hydrodynamic separation but are the most financially viable option if there are few inlets (+/- 10) or if there are multiple outfalls (discharge points to the public drainage). They are very effective at filtering trash and debris. ➡ 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘀 are large underground structures that help to store waste/storm water when there is too much of it. ➡ These tunnels can be installed in existing sewer systems or replace old ones using Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) technology. ➡ 𝗛𝗼𝘄𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿, it's important to consider that deep detention tunnels can have issues with 𝘀𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, especially during extended dry periods. ➡ When designing these tunnels, it's important to use 𝗽𝘂𝗺𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀. ➡ If the tunnels are 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟮𝟬 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 deep, direct-coupled submersible pumps are recommended. #stormwater #stormwatermanagement

The drain discharges directly into Lake Michigan via the Seider Drain in PJ Hoffmaster State Park, making it a significant coastal resource.
