Finding Unique Finance Team Solutions For Cannabis Operators | Chief Revenue Officer @ Dope CFO | Cannabis Industry: Financial Strategy and Partnership Development | Keynote Speaker | Accounting Ninja
Wrapped up the final day of MJ Unpacked yesterday. I'm probably biased because we only serve the cannabis industry. But I'm very excited for the future of the #cannabis industry. Some #quotes I wrote down from candid conversations with cannabis investors and operators. "what excites me currently... profitable cannabis companies with real cash flows that are positive." - VC person "The secret sauce in running a profitable cannabis business... is that there is no secret sauce." - Cultivation CEO person. The cannabis industry continues to open new adult use markets every month. Established markets have more municipalities opting into allowing cannabis businesses. And whole new emerging adult use markets are opening up with MN and OH being the most recent. So very excited to be a part of growing industry. It is not with out #growing pains. But still an awesome industry to be a part of.

"There’s a lot that goes into a good cannabis product, from growing strategies, curing and processing, to the packaging it comes in. And with so many opinions in the space, it can be hard to know exactly what separates a good product from a not so great one, objectively speaking. So at our last Smoke and Pancake event, I took it upon myself to chat with some of the other folks there and ask: what are your green flags when it comes to cannabis? During my time at the College of Charleston, I worked with Weishen Wang on a comprehensive financial evaluation of cannabis stocks for my Bachelors Essay. Our hard work has paid off, and our research has been published in The Journal of Beta Investment Strategies! Cannabis is a controversial product, and cannabis related businesses (CRB) currently are constrained at the federal level and in many states where the use of cannabis is illegal. To analyze whether these constraints and controversies affected performance, we created a portfolio containing cannabis firms and their stocks to measure growth and stock performance. We compared the performance of the cannabis industry with other similar “sin” industries. We found that despite the constraints and controversies surrounding the industry, firms in the cannabis industry have high growth rates and their stocks perform favorably compared to broad indexes and other “sin” industries. The California Department of Cannabis Control has issued a mandatory recall for Mike Tyson’s Undisputed Truth Cannabis Flower products due to contamination with a type of mold. Last week, California’s Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) issued a mandatory recall for a Mike Tyson-branded product, Tyson Undisputed Cannabis Flower, due to contamination with Aspergillus sp., a type of mold. The recall, published on April 9, affects multiple products sold after August 24, 2023, including the TOAD and TADPOLES batches, distributed across several counties including Alameda, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The flower was grown by manufacturer Northern Emeralds, who also partnered with rapper Future for a product collaboration last year. This incident follows on the heels of other recent product recalls in California’s cannabis industry, which has been plagued this year by issues related to both product safety and testing integrity. Among industry insiders, the practice of “lab-shopping” — where cannabis manufacturers shop around for labs that might provide inflated or fabricated test results to increase sales or obfuscate the presence of contaminants — has been a controversial subject for years. The incident also brings fresh attention to concerns about celebrity-backed cannabis brands, which critics argue may prioritize marketing over product quality and safety. Consumers who have purchased any of the affected Tyson Undisputed products are advised to check their packages for specific batch and UID numbers listed in the recall notice. Those with matching numbers should dispose of the products or return them to the retailer for proper disposal. The DCC has also instructed all licensees with recalled products in their inventory to follow specific procedures to address the recall and has offered assistance via recalls@cannabis.ca.gov." - Ganjapreneur
