This initiative represents a significant step forward in our commitment to academic excellence and innovation across the Western Balkans. Keep in mind: Supporting Mobility: Offering financial support for up to two months, enabling access to leading research infrastructures across different WB economies. Eligibility: Open to PhD students and Post-docs within seven years of their doctorate, affiliated with accredited institutions in the WB region. 💸💸 Can Sweden afford to lose them? 👩🏽🔬👨🏽🔬 A recent report by EURAXESS Sweden raises this question because only 38% of those who earn a PhD in Sweden are still in the country three years later. Is it a problem? Not necessarily. But considering that it costs an average of 5 million SEK to educate a PhD, the Swedes are thinking about how to retain more of these talents in the country and help them find relevant jobs outside academia after graduation. We have some of the same problems in Denmark - so what can we learn from the report? (Thanks for making an important report, Therese Lindkvist). In my opinion, the most important takeaway is that this challenge must be addressed collectively as a society. Universities, employers, organisations such as trade unions, and government authorities must work together to make it more attractive and easier for international talents to stay. 👉 2025 Call for Fellowship Applications for the Regional Network of Centers for Advanced Studies in Southeast Europe (RECAS) 👈 This year’s fellowship program is centered around the theme: "Change in the Balkans – Strategic Interventions for Democratic Europe." Our aim is to empower researchers to engage in forward-thinking, action-oriented research that addresses the interconnected crises shaping the region—from demographic shifts and economic instability to digital transformation and the green transition. The Estonian Research Council launches an adaptation grant for international recruitment of researchers Starting from April 2024, the Estonian Research Council (ETAG) is introducing a new adaptation grant aimed at supporting Estonian research and development institutions in recruiting researchers from outside Estonia. The new adaptation grant is targeted at involving researchers from abroad in Estonian research and development institutions. Its goal is to bring new knowledge to the Estonian research landscape, enriching local research and development activities, and raising their quality. The 2024 International Education Conference with the Theme: "The African Century; Harnessing the Potentials of African Intellectual for Rapid Economic Growth" is currently underway in Kumasi.
