𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝟮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽 As part of my second master’s in Project Management, living in Barcelona has been an incredible challenge and opportunity. 💬 Adapting to both an English and Spanish speaking environment was tough at first, but now I feel much more fluent and confident in my communication. 📚 Academically, these two months have been an eye-opening experience. I’ve deepened my understanding of key areas like Strategic Leadership, Knowledge Management, Quality Management, and Scope Management. Among them, Scope Management has truly stood out to me. I’ve learned the importance of defining project boundaries clearly, managing stakeholder expectations, and avoiding scope creep to ensure successful project delivery. Each global project brings together a mosaic of cultures, each with its own norms and values. Diving into these cultural nuances isn't a mere courtesy—it's a strategic advantage. Understanding these differences fosters mutual respect and smoother collaboration, while averting potential conflicts. For instance, recognizing how different cultures approach hierarchy can dramatically shift how you delegate tasks. In my own work with international teams, embracing cultural diversity has not only enhanced project outcomes but enriched my own perspective. Let's share knowledge: What's the most eye-opening insight you've gained from working across borders?

I've recently come to the realization that there is a sense of balance that needs to be maintained when it comes to looking at the future. Be it with projects or responsibilities. Personally, I'm someone who needs to break obstacles down and focus one day at a time as a form of management. Looking at the full scope can be overwhelming for some and not others. It is true that some people can focus on the whole picture, and others are better a giving their undivided attention to one piece at a time, working through precisise detail. However something I've realized is that the more precisely you are focused, the more likely you will get carried away by those details. Whether this means you loose track of time, attempt to make something perfect, or delay the start of a next piece, it is important to take a step back and look at the full project. Taking things one day at a time is sound advice, but sometimes it is good to consider just where those days are headed.

Working on a project takes a lot more than what we see. It is more than the work itself. Mostly, it involves #dedication, #coordination, and the #determination to see things through, no matter the challenges. Our team understands this deeply because being on the field means dealing with real-time situations that require quick thinking, adaptability, and teamwork. It's not just about following plans or implementing designs. It’s about connecting with the people and the environment. We analyze every detail to ensure that the solutions we provide are sustainable and impactful. From site investigations to ensuring the safety and quality of materials, every step demands focus and precision. The team doesn't stop at physical work; we constantly engage with local communities, listen to their needs, and consider how our work can improve their lives. It’s the combination of our #technical expertise and human connection that ensures success. Working on the field is challenging but rewarding. Every challenge is an #opportunity to learn and grow, and every completed task is a testament to the effort and passion we pour into making a difference.

In recent years, I’ve realized how essential soft skills are for the role of Project Controller, beyond technical expertise. I've worked hard to develop and refine those aspects that often make the difference between a successful project and one that doesn't meet its goals 🎯. 👥 Effective communication: Being able to convey complex information clearly and concisely is crucial to ensure that all team members are aligned. I've learned that transparency and empathy can lead to much smoother collaboration. 🔄 Flexibility and adaptability: In a constantly changing environment, being ready to adapt quickly is a key skill. The ability to manage uncertainty and proactively respond to unexpected problems is something I've honed over time. 🧠 Problem-solving: Every project presents obstacles, but the ability to solve them creatively and strategically determines success. Tackling challenges in a structured and analytical way has helped me better manage daily complexities. 💡 Leadership and motivation: Motivating the team and keeping everyone focused on common goals is an essential part of my work. Gratitude and recognition A year can be so short for all the tactical and operational milestones required to be achieved in the short and mid term in our projects. It can be, as well, too long for the day to day struggle. Each project I've worked in has a common factor: the increasing complexity. It's incredible the amount of things that can go wrong, the spectrum of issues and blockers that may arise day after day. If we weren't used to dealing with complex projects it could seem like pure entropy. So, what are the success factors of a project? I could sum up in two things that encompasses a lot more: 1. People, 2. The way people interact and communicate. These two things embrace the why (purpose - common goal), the what (scope) and the how (schedule, cost, etc.). As project managers or project directors we may oversee that the project's outcomes are the result of the joint effort of our team, the people (point 1 above) and our responsibility relies mainly on how to make them engaged and committed with the project's purpose and objectives. This time I'll take the opportunity to present my gratitude for the highly skilled, knowledgeable, committed and amazing human beings I'm working with in one of the most challenging projects I've worked within my professional life.
