I've greatly enjoyed reading this report about the AI-novelties in the medical world (though it left me a bit worried too, as being married to a "light hypochondriac", I wonder what will he potentially diagnose for the family with all this new, "playful" data available right at hand? ;) In the same time, I got excited about the accessibility improvement that the AI-driven tools may potentially bring to currently medically-underserved regions of the world. The value is perhaps not that spectacular for the moment, but I’m curious to wait 10 more years and then check what happens ;).    The area of the UX-healthcare is not an easy one (trust me - I’m currently PMing two projects in this area). Building a positive user experience with a hospital management system for many practitioners may sound like squeezing water from a stone. I do believe though that quite a number of advantages may derive from partnering with AI for the healthcare industry - both on a professional and individual levels.   Piotrek Dziadowicz and Joanna Pałubicka: kudos for the wellbeing novelties - I'm already testing! - hoping to improve my own health mAIntenance as the New Year's resolution :).

Another aspect covered in the report is the use of VR technology (e. g. from FundamentalVR) to create realistic simulations of surgical procedures. This approach combines a haptic system with VR goggles to accurately simulate the feel of bone, soft tissue and muscle, enhancing the realism of the training experience. Another in my series highlighting #vMed2024 presenters! This is a great application of #virtualreality in #healthcare #learning around using #VR to train behavior and cognition in patients with Parkinson’s disease. The approach is to build a number of important cognitive/behavioral tasks into VR delivered content that represent dual tasks, like the Stroop, go/no go, trails, digit span, etc. As I discuss often, VR can affect cognitive and behavioral centers in the #brain simultaneously. This is a feasibility study and the results are compelling. Significant improvements were observed in the Berg balance scale and Stroop color-word tasks. Positive changes in the Time up and Go test and dual task interference task were observed but did not reach statistical significance. I will be following this group and anxiously await a randomized controlled trial.   cc: Han Gil Seo
