Why did the therapist break up with the DSM-5? Because it had too many issues! 😄 Okay, that was a bit corny... but can someone please help me understand something? 🤔 With the DSM-6 expected to be released sometime next year, I decided to look into its history and was amazed at what I found: • DSM-I (1952): 106 Diagnoses • DSM-II (1968): 182 Diagnoses • DSM-III (1980): 265 Diagnoses • DSM-IV (1994): 297 Diagnoses • DSM-5 (2013): 541 Diagnoses That’s a lot of diagnoses! 😳 Now, I’m really wondering: Is there a point where the sheer number of diagnoses becomes counterproductive? Are we truly improving how we treat clients, or are we just adding more complexity? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Does having more diagnoses lead to better care, or does it just complicate things? #MentalHealth #DSM #Psychotherapy #ClinicalSocialWork #MentalHealthAwareness #Therapy #ClinicalDiagnosis #MentalHealthTreatment #DiagnosticOverload
