From a young age, I’ve recognized that donating blood is more than a simple act—it’s a gift that can mean the difference between life and death. Growing up with a father who suffers from hemophilia—a condition that impairs proper blood clotting—has shown me firsthand the crucial need for blood donations. This Remembrance Day, as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, I encourage you to consider making a difference by donating blood at your local Canadian Blood Services center. Did you know? * Nearly half of Canadians will need blood or blood products at some point in their lives. Yet, only about 4% of eligible Canadians donate each year. * Each blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives. * You can start donating at age 17 and continue for life, provided you meet Canadian Blood Services’ eligibility criteria. Canadian Blood Services and Héma-Québec collect blood, plasma, and platelets at over 14,000 donor clinics and 36 permanent collection sites nationwide. For more information, or to find a donation center near you, visit: Canadian Blood Services (https://lnkd.in/dEh9g7_r) or Find a Location Near You (https://lnkd.in/dnK_crZ4)

The Smith County Commissioners Court accepted a donation of nine LIFEPACK CR2 Defibrillators to be placed in county buildings. Smith County Judge Neal Franklin thanked UT Health EMS for the generous donation of Automated Externa Defibrillators (AEDs), worth $21,000. The funds come from a First Responders Fund, he added. Franklin said UT Health EMS gave Smith County six AEDs last year and are helping the county greatly. The goal is to get an AED in every one of Smith County’s 29 buildings. “They are truly a lifesaver,” he said. “They are easy to use, with clear instructions … We are very thankful.”
