When we say that our machines are reliability champions, we're not kidding: here's the proof!
This Mi28 drilling rig belongs to the previous series of our machine fleet, but it’s still working great.
The GEO Domus Tecna team has been using it for years with total safety and without any particular issues. You can see it tirelessly working day and night, thanks to the lighting system on board.
Perfect for water and mineral research, seismic, core drilling, and geothermal projects; or for water wells, as showed in this video.
What a reliability champion 🔥

At Baseload Power US we have been developing a shallow temperature survey (2m probe) system with Chris Reede of Double R Drilling and Geologica Geothermal Group, Inc.
The need for such a system in the Basin & Range geothermal industry became evident to me when I couldn't find a contractor to perform a survey for one of our prospects in Nevada. Years before, I had built a system while at GeoGlobal Energy, supported by my boss David Sussman and other mentors like Glenn Melosh and Jim Stimac. I was inspired to do it after learning the technique from Chris Kratt at the Great Basin Center for Geothermal Research at UNR. We took the GGE system down to the Altiplano in Chile where we got to run around poking holes with Pedro Muñoz Lizama, Silke Lohmar, Domingo Maldonado, Instructor de montaña and Andrea González. We got good data, and it was a lot of fun, but that system never achieved it's full potential because we didn't have the fully fluted 2m concrete drill bits we needed to quickly drill holes. I have no idea what became of that rig, maybe it's still in northern Chile.
Fast forward 12 years and I found myself in need of a new rig to explore in Nevada. I had been doing some work at UNR and talked with Kurt Kraal about the GBCGE rig, which wasn't available for hire. Kurt has done some great work on writing the SOPs for these types of surveys. Leland Davis helped me get in touch with Chris who understood the assignment immediately. Chris took a different tack on building the rig than I had done, and his drilling experience really shown through. After some field testing in March and April with Drew Siler, Peter Drakos, and Matthew Folsom, we did our first survey earlier this month and got some very good data. Better than I was expecting. And the rig and crew performed beautifully. Some holes could be knocked out in 10 minutes or less. We think that with further refinements to the system we can get up to 30 points per day.
I believe there are many more blind geothermal systems to be uncovered in the Basin & Range. We will have to survey a very large area of the Western U.S. to find them. Shallow 2m probe systems like this, as well as the kind of HeliTEM and other exploration techniques being used by Paul Schwering, Maria Richards and our other friends at the BRIDGE project will allow us to locate these warm needles in the sandy haystack that is the Basin & Range. It's not unreasonable that we may find hundreds to thousands more MW in blind systems worldwide using these techniques.

Double R recently worked with Baseload Power and Geologica to develop a 2m probe rig. The initial survey was successful, we’re looking forward to helping move the industry forward.
