Many of us say, "If I can just reach one person in the room" on the leadership journey. This has been an essential tool to encourage me to continue my journey. After branching out and taking the big step of being a podcast guest and sharing my unique view of leadership, I wondered if any of my teammates watched the podcast. I got my answer from a teammate who shared his thoughts on the podcast with me. After he left my office, it was clear I "reached one person" and inspired them. These types of interactions are essential in our leadership journey and can help us continue the journey. As I sit here this morning preparing for the week, I think this goes something like..."how do you say you focus on being a significant company without saying it directly" This picture tells a story. Had the family out at the Michigan International Speedway NASCAR race this weekend hanging out with are friends at LEGACY MOTOR CLUB. The kids first NASCAR race and what an experience it has been. But, yesterday only about 25% into the race, it was postponed to 11AM today. Which totally screwed up my business schedule and commitments. Figuring this was going to happen due to the forecast, I texted Jesse Hudson and Drew English who oversee our CEPA candidates, in advance to help get a backup facilitator for todays session. A big deal too as this CEPA Program is one of our largest programs this year, with 325 advisors this week. Also a big deal for my family. As one could imagine, battling rain on and off all day yesterday for 5 hours just to only get 25% of the race in and postponed til the next day. Kids were bummed. Knowing Dad had to work, they figured it was over and we had to go home today. BUT, Jesse and Drew said simply "Scott it is handled". Go spend time with the family. Having that ability as an owner, or even as an employee, to do this is absolutely critical to success and significance. Knowing that these type of family experiences are important. Having back up plans in place in your business and a well prepared team who can execute are some of the key components to significant companies. 5 years ago, I could not have done this. I would have been on my way home already preparing for a busy business afternoon. But over the last 5 years we have embraced my Dads methodology and incorporated deeply into who we are as owners and as an organization. Yesterday’s Detroit Lions win resonated with me at a deeper level. World thought the Detroit Lions had hit rock bottom (in fact, they did); they didn’t win a playoff game in 32 years. Just three years ago, during Halloween, when kids were out trick-or-treating, several families dumped Lions tickets in the bags in place of candies (this shows how hopeless the fans were). Dan Campbell was hired as a head coach on Jan 20th, 2021, to rewrite history. We can learn 3 lessons from this amazing comeback. 1. You CAN come back from rock bottom; it’s not at all impossible. Believe you CAN and you WILL. 2. Focus on the process, not the result. Just stick with fundamentals and improve 1% every day. The results will follow. 3. Transformation takes time, be patient and play the long game. But the most important lesson is more personal to me:  𝑨 𝒄𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑾𝑰𝑳𝑳 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆, 𝒏𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒘. This is why coaching gives me so much kick. You can transform lives, whether someone has hit rock bottom or ready to play at a level that they can’t imagine today.
