China's nuclear arsenal increased by nearly 100 warheads over the last year, according to a report published today. Beijing's nuclear arsenal increased from 410 warheads to 500 over 2023, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said in its annual report on international security. The report said China will have a smaller stockpile of nuclear warheads than Russia or the US by the end of the decade but may have as many intercontinental ballistic missiles. SIPRI said, “China is expanding its nuclear arsenal faster than any other country. But in nearly all of the nuclear-armed states, there are either plans or a significant push to increase nuclear forces.” https://ow.ly/rPev50SjZMX

Is Russia developing space-based nuclear weapon? What we know of US claim. What is the space-based nuclear weapon that the United States has warned Congress and allies in Europe that Russia could use against the West's satellites? The exact nature of the weapon - and whether it actually exists - is unclear. But threatening satellites could cause all sorts of mischief - undermining communications, surveillance, intelligence and command and control around the world, including in the nuclear sphere. It is unclear why Russia would need to use nuclear weapons to... https://lnkd.in/dzTBXedT

I am with her: Calling China a “nuclear threat” gives the US a convenient pretext to seek absolute strategic primacy. As the country possessing the world’s largest & most advanced nuclear arsenal, the US should fulfill its special & primary responsibility of #nucleardisarmament. The USA : After years of nuclear arms reduction efforts, the administration has been signalling willingness to expand the US arsenal to counter China and Russia’s nuclear strategies more recently. In February, the US warned allies that Russia could be planning to put a nuclear weapon into space. You don’t need 5000 nuclear warheads to destroy the planet a nuclear war would end humanity as Einstein predicted.

How many nuclear weapons does North Korea have? North Korea continues to modernize and grow its nuclear weapons arsenal. In this Nuclear Notebook, the authors cautiously estimate that North Korea may have produced enough fissile material to hypothetically build up to 90 nuclear warheads, but has likely assembled fewer than that—potentially around 50. To deliver the warheads, North Korea is enhancing and diversifying its missile force, most recently with new solid-fuel long-range strategic missiles, short-range tactical missiles, and sea-based missiles. But more still needs to be done
Today’s international nuclear landscape is a volatile one: Russia continues to develop new strategic nuclear weapons delivery systems and modernize its tactical nuclear weapons inventory; China is in the midst of the largest ever nuclear force expansion and arsenal diversification in its history; North Korea is expanding its nuclear arsenal; Iran continues to enrich uranium. Working with our partners at the Department of Defense, #NNSA is currently engaged in five, simultaneous warhead modernization programs. Together, we provide an effective nuclear deterrent across air, land, and sea. https://lnkd.in/gEkbR-6q
