How to Ask for Job Referrals Effectively? Here are some key tips to ensure you get the best referral support: 1. Share the Job Requisition ID: When asking for a referral, always provide the job requisition ID. This helps your contact pinpoint the exact position and support your application accurately by applying against it. 2. Don't Apply Directly: Avoid applying directly to the job yourself. Doing so will invalidate the referral process, as the candidate is now already in their database and will not be considered as referral. 3. Job fitment: Reach out to your contact with a note explaining why you're a good fit for the role and how their referral could help. I have had several people reach out to me about help in finding a new role. I have the next two weeks free until I start my new role to help. Here are few things I did that helped me get a lot of interviews and progression. 1. Keep a spreadsheet (Google Sheets is great to use) and track all your roles you applied for that resulted in a response. Go even further track all companies you applied to and track the hiring manager and recruiter you reached out too. 2. Use the free tools or some B2B tools to find email and contact info for hiring managers and recruiters (This is especially needed for sales roles, show your hunting and tenacity skills). 3. Get on Repvue, Vizjobs and Work at a Startup, There are plenty of sites out there to find roles that are not always posted here on LI. 4. Personalize your message to Hiring Manager, Make sure to mention why you want to work for the company and any specific skills you excel at listed in job description. 5. Follow up 2-3 days after you send message. Show that you are vested in finding a new role. Please let me know if I can help connect you to any of my network.
