𝟒𝟎 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐈 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝟒𝟎 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝟖: 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞! They often say, if there's no seat at the table, create your own table. While this is true, it’s not as simple as it sounds. Before you can create your own table, you need to work your way up to earn that seat first. This process is challenging and requires determination and hard work. As a young professional, I worked in various large organizations, the smallest having over 20 people and the largest over one thousand. The common factor among all these organizations was that your role or function had to be earned, it was not just given. I remember my first managerial role at the age of 23, leading over 25 people. It was both a blessing and a curse because while my director saw potential in me and gave me the role within a year, I lacked the experience to lead such a large group. During my first management evaluation, my director was disappointed and called me a "paper manager," someone who holds the title but lacks practical skills. He started giving me after-hours coaching, requiring me to stay two extra hours every day. I accepted this sacrifice because I wanted to prove that I could lead effectively. For over a year, I dedicated 1-2 extra hours daily to develop my management skills. When I calculated the total effort, it amounted to over 70 working days, which is equivalent to more than two months of extra work. This wasn't a one-time effort. I often worked unpaid, even when I deserved compensation. I remember launching a countrywide project for over 3000 supermarkets, training both employees and supermarket owners on the new system. The project was massive, and I spent weeks training store owners. After the successful launch, I calculated that I had saved the organization over $100K by providing the training myself. Yet, I received only my regular salary. Through these experiences, I learned that it's not always about what you get paid or your worth on paper. Throughout my career, I've hired over 50 people, sometimes with HR support. The most interesting observation is that many young adults believe their degree entitles them to specific positions, salaries, or benefits. The reality is that the degree is just a piece of paper when you enter the job market. What truly matters is your journey, the sacrifices you make, and your willingness to start small and work your way up. Success requires making sacrifices, accepting unfair situations, and starting at the bottom. Eventually, you will earn the big rewards and create your own table. Today’s employers value attitude, commitment, courage, discipline, mindset, and more—qualities often not taught in universities. So, how do you learn these? By starting somewhere, reading, and building experience. Do this and someday you will create your own table for sure. 𝟒𝟎 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐈 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝟒𝟎 Lesson 8: Earn your seat at the table!

🛎 From Perk to Policy - a critical look at Learning and Development. 🤔 One of the popular questions asked at interviews is "Where do you see yourself 3 to 5 years from now?" Well, I've often turned round to ask where they see the role advertised 3 to 5 years time. 🙋🏽♀️ I know times have changed and more employers are investing in training for their employees but I think more can still be done. 👉🏾 Learning and development should no longer be treated as a perk to attract a high calibre of employees. Rather, it should be a show of commitment to an employee's growth and on-going career success. 👉🏾 By making L&D a company policy, businesses are creating a win-win situation. The #workforce is more engaged, skilled and productive while the organisation reaps increased success and sustainability. 👉🏾 L&D can take various forms from on-the-job/in-house training to external CPD courses. Perhaps this is where the knowledge gap is and may explain why employers are not readily offering learning opportunities. Also, employees may be reluctant to take up learning offers based on the terms and conditions attached. 🤜🏽 This leads me to a quote from Richard Branson, "Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don’t want to.” 👉🏾 I think employers should take a cue from the quote above and make learning a part of company culture. This is also relevant to faith organisations - Proverbs 27:23, "know the state of your flock." 🙋🏽♀️ DM me to speak about your L&D programmes or about the full range of courses we offer. ________________________________ Hi, I’m Morin Carew, Founder/Director of Right Impressions Ltd. Overcoming Setbacks: My Plan on Moving Forward 📈 Yesterday, I shared a hard lesson I learned about celebrating too early. Today, I'm focused on how to turn this setback into a stepping stone. After a significant number of my placements absconded, I realized I needed to refine my approach. Here’s my plan to overcome this challenge: Strengthening Screening Processes: I’ll enhance my screening to the right talent with a commitment to long-term growth. Regular Check-Ins: I’ll implement more frequent check-ins with new joiners to address any issues early and provide support where needed. Feedback: Getting feedback will help in better understanding the concerns that might lead to absconding. Building a Stronger Support System: Establishing a group where members can freely share thoughts, ideas, and support one another. Ensuring the group is welcoming and inclusive. Setbacks are a part of growth. It’s how we respond and adapt that defines our success. Here’s to overcoming challenges and building a stronger team! #OvercomingSetbacks #HR #Resilience #GrowthMindset #EmployeeEngagement

INTENTIONAL & ETHICAL recruitment is our trademark! Director of Recruitment| Helping qualified candidates grow their careers by matching them with thriving companies seeking to scale | Mid to executive-level placement
Ever notice how some employers have this funny habit? You go above and beyond, and instead of a raise or even a small token of appreciation, you’re handed... more work? It's no wonder so many people are coasting at their jobs. Too often, the "reward" for doing great work is simply piling on more. Now, don’t get me wrong — I’m all for hard work. I believe in it. But I believe even more in getting compensated, recognized, and promoted for it. Do you like this post? Are you truly deserving of a bonus? 🤔💼💷 We often associate financial rewards with outstanding performance. But when we strip away the privilege, what remains at the core of a "bonus-worthy" contribution? Consider this: 1️⃣ Value Beyond Targets: surpassing goals is just the start—it's about the unquantifiable impact you leave. 2️⃣ Leadership in Action: Do you inspire, support, and elevate others, creating a ripple effect of excellence? 3️⃣ Initiative and Innovation: Are you a trailblazer who dares to redefine the status quo? Here lies the crux of bonus qualification—not just achieving, but enhancing the fabric of our workplace culture. 🚀 Boosting team morale: It's not just about reaching goals, but also about how you elevate the team's spirit along the way. 🤝 Mentorship matters: Going beyond your duties to guide and nurture talent could be infinitely more impactful. ✨ The extra mile: That project you spearheaded not just met but exceeded expectations, setting new standards! Point to ponder: If bonuses reflect extraordinary effort, is our day-to-day hustle leaving a legacy worth the reward? I'd love to hear your thoughts—what makes someone truly deserving of a bonus? 👀 Meanwhile, for more insights on performance and career growth, don't forget to follow the RAW Search company page. #CareerGrowth #WorkplaceCulture #PerformanceBonus

Steph Lartey, a titan in professional development, recently lit up our latest masterclass with her invaluable advice. She touched on critical career aspects, such as salary negotiations, performance reviews, and the art of maximising earning potential. Targeted mainly at early professionals, her insights were invaluable (check out the video below for a short snippet from her talk 👇) I've always believed in empowering oneself at an early stage in your career and Steph truly nailed what this really means on the head... 1. Understanding your worth is crucial. Never shy away from negotiating salaries that you deserve. 2. Success is personal. Define what it looks like to you to know what you aiming for. 3. Soliciting guidance is important. Never hesitate to ask for help when you need it. 4. Financial education and wellness are key. This will set you up for success. Regardless of your career stage, equipping yourself with the tools and resources to navigate your financial journey is vital. If you're an employer looking to enhance your teams' financial wellbeing and provide them with the suppor they need, Maji can help! Our platform combines advanced financial planning technology with workshops (such as this one) and one-on-one human coaching, so that they can feel less stressed and more secure in their roles.
