After three special months on paternity leave, I am excited (and a bit nervous) to return to work. These past months have been special, from seeing my daughter become a big sister to introducing my son to England’s brand of mediocre, controversial but supposedly effective football.
This is my second stint of paternity leave at Ipsos. I don’t have the words for how grateful I am for our fantastic progressive paternity leave policy, where paternity leave is equal to maternity leave. I will forever be grateful for these precious early days with my children, and my wife, grateful for the support, without the added stress of a shortened leave.
To all the future dads at Ipsos, I highly encourage you to take advantage of this amazing paternity leave benefit. It’s special.
To my colleagues who pushed and trailblazed this policy before I started thinking about children, thank you.
To future dads in other organisations who don’t have progressive policies, don’t be afraid to drop a cheeky email to HR asking why not (as one of my best pals has done). It’s not always feasible, but it’s worth starting a conversation.
As I step back into my role at work, I remember how much I love my job, how much I love learning from smart, fun and kind people. Social research is in such an exciting space with new tech and anticipated new policies.
Thank you to everyone at Ipsos for your understanding and support during my time away. My family and I really appreciate it.
