Very interesting topic last night at ATD SD. "How to prepare Your Organization for the Coming Political & Social Turmoil." The speaker Gregg Ward shared things you can say to COOL down the ROOM.
1. Ask For a Breath: "I don't think we're going to solve this by being upset with each other, but if we take a few breaths we can hear each other better."
2. Acknowledge Strong Feelings: "I can tell you feel strongly about that."
3. I Think We Can Agree: "I think we can agree this is a loaded topic."
4. Admit It's Hard to Think When: "It's really hard to solve problems when people are upset with each other, we're probably not going to solve this here. Why don't we get back to the business at hand?"
5. Maintain Respect: "Let's all do our best to be respectful."
Very useful and timely information. Another great ATD San Diego event!

A Call for Innovation and for Evolution⚙️
Today I am lucky to attend the 2024/25 #Rotary Zone 26/27 Institute in Spokane!
With a perfect metaphor for Rotary’s recognition sitting just outside the conference windows, John Hewko, RI’s General Secretary & CEO illustrated
five keys to innovation as Rotarians to preserve this incredible organization I’ve come to love:
1. Perform SWOT analysis and make changes to attract idea club members
2. Implement new and innovative club models —think outside the box to reach potential members who do not prescribe to flexible schedules
3. Improve Projects: Consider scale and sustainability-clubs that solve 100% of a smaller project are often more successful in the long-term than those who solve 1% of a large issue
4. Consider Partnership: Use unique skills and experience of various people 1+1=3!!
5. Leverage the Power of AI: embrace technology to better ID problems in the community and where we can
Together, let’s keep the #magicofrotary alive!!! ⚙️
We hosted over 100 FutureMakers for the 9th FutureMakers Coalition Breakfast of Champions on September 12th. It was an exciting morning filled with reflections on what we can accomplish when we work together, how our work aligns with the work of the Florida Chamber of Commerce with a fantastic keynote address from Mark Wilson, and what is ahead as we approach 2025.
A couple of highlights:
- FutureMakers Coalition has increased attainment from 39% to 44.3% (2022). That’s 62,613 credentials since we got started.
- FutureMakers Coalition has distributed $10M to partners since 2020.
What FutureMakers do over the next year will determine if we reach our 55% goal. What are you willing to do to help transform the workforce in SWFL?
We the people...
When I was invited to the White House for an opportunity to meet with and hear from the President Biden’s team of senior advisors, I expected something quite different than what actually happened.
Of all I learned and observed that day, what struck me the most was the diversity of people in the room – both the people invited to meet with the President’s advisors, and the advisors themselves.
