Yesterday, the entire company took part in conversation around Smithbucklin's new values, what they mean, how they are applied, and what they can unlock for us with intentional practice. As someone who is values-driven and prioritizes company culture in any job, I was impressed. Every single value struck a chord with me and related beautifully with each other; together they weave a web of the skills and attitudes that yield success. Two things became clear throughout the day: 1. Smithbucklin did the leg work to distill these values from employee input. I can hear the voices of so many of my colleagues in each definition. As we gear up for a new year, taking the time to align on strategy, goals, and expectations with our team and clients is essential. In Black Squad, we’ve been fortunate to work closely with Wolfson Brands to build a collaborative approach that brings our team and client into a truly unified front. This past month, we sat down with Wolfson Brands to plan our way forward. With Matthew Cole and Scott Dingwall’s leadership, and the entire Black Squad’s dedication, we’ve planned out our strategy with a focus on clarity, commitment, and shared objectives. A special thanks to Matt, Scott, and everyone on the team—you all made this process enjoyable, insightful, and highly productive. We know that setting goals is about more than numbers—it’s about creating a shared vision. Defining key performance indicators (KPIs) for the year ahead with Wolfson Brands has given us all a clear understanding of the value we aim to deliver. Working together to refine these KPIs ensures that our milestones are not only achievable but genuinely meaningful for both sides. Richard Davis: Some of the key lessons I learned from working in professional services for 20-plus years is the importance of investing in talent. It sounds cliche, but at the end of the day, whether it’s the client-facing attorneys or more internally focused roles with the business professionals, having the right team around you is absolutely critical. I mentioned before the organization’s ability to and willingness to embrace change is very important to make sure that they don’t get left behind, that we always have to try to do better to maintain our competitive position, and if you really are out there trying to gain market share. Today marks my one year anniversary at Placer.ai. 365 days in the blink of an eye! Reflecting on the past year fills me with gratitude not only for what we've accomplished but for the incredible milestones ahead. I "found" this industry over ten years ago with a little bit of luck and almost by mistake. At the time, I was buying media for a brand and was perplexed by a problem: our mobile advertising didn't convert. But why? I set out on a path to find a company that could help solve that problem, and it unlocked a series of events that has turned location analytics into my career path. Since then, I've had the honor of working with some of the world's largest brands and organizations to uncover use cases far beyond media. It has been 10 years full of learning, asking questions, and creatively solving for big, real world problems in retail, commercial real estate, marketing, strategy, tourism, financial services, and more. A decade in, I find myself more excited than ever. I am proud to work for the market leader in location analytics and look forward to many years of growth and success to come.
