We close our coverage for the week with this post from #disputeresolution #marketing legend and all-round good guy Paul McKeating at disputes powerhouse Herbert Smith Freehills, who reflects on working with Paula Hodges, KC, as she takes up her new role as an independent #arbitrator. The relationships between BD staff and partners are fundamental to any major law firm business's success- especially in an institutionally-heavy and relationship-conscious practice area like #arbitration. The firm owes much to Paula, but such successes are harder to find and keep without Paul. It takes two.

6 things you may not know about me and my journey into law: 1. I am now an Associate 😄 😄 2. I do not have a Law degree. I have a degree in Business Studies. 📚 👩🎓 3. My first real career after leaving University was at Enterprise where I completed their Graduate scheme. This included sitting the dauting Skill and Grill tests which felt like the final interview episode of the Apprentice, with Ian Gray playing the part of Sir Alan Sugar. 4. After moving into law, I decided to pursue CILEX whilst working at Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP, a role that required me to train and manage paralegals (or fondly known as para-seagulls when there were treats around) before they flew the nest and became trainee solicitors themselves. Looking back, we've all come along way since those days especially bearing in mind I was only in my mid 20's then. 🏢 5. I qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive at the age of 31, having then joined my husband and step-son as a family and lived through the days of the pandemic. Proof that there really is no age cap on qualifying. 6. a student at heart, my latest challenge has had me studying for the SQE in the middle of raising my daughter. There are days I doubt myself. I hope I am setting a good example to my children in working hard, nurturing a healthy mindset and relentlessly challenging yourself but there are days when I question myself (especially when my 2 year old asks "are you studying again mummy?"). Fingers crossed for the results in May when I can finally say my days of a student are over.... (just don't hold me to that!). 😎 #lawcareer #qualify #student #law #promotion
