In healthcare, diversity isn't just about background or culture—it's also about how our brains work. Neurodiversity encompasses conditions like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and more, offering unique strengths and perspectives that are invaluable in a clinical setting. For healthcare professionals, embracing neurodiversity means, leveraging innovative problem-solving, enhancing patient care with diverse approaches and building more inclusive, and supportive environments. Let’s continue breaking down barriers and championing inclusivity for all.
As neurodiversity is increasingly being recognised in adults, we are seeing more neurodiverse medical students coming through the system. We are working hard on how we can better support them, which prompted me to write this article about how we can better support neurodiverse staff in the clinical setting.

"Neuroinclusion in the workplace means promoting awareness and understanding amongst all staff... [and] aims to improve a neurodiverse individual’s lived experience, reduce their psychosocial burden, positively impacting their work and ultimately patient care." Many parallels with the pharmacy profession in this excellent paper shared by Jo-Anne Johnson 👏We need statistics on neurodiversity in pharmacy 👏We get training on supporting neurodivergent patients but not on supporting healthcare professionals 👏With the right support, neurodivergent professionals can flourish; without it they risk burnout Please read this open access paper and share it with your teams and network.
