How can we as a community come together not to fight the system, but to change it? Not to control the narrative, but to improve it? Not to interpret the underserved voices, but to amplify them? As a community, we have the power to make a positive impact. For me, that meant transitioning into community advocacy and working towards equity. But after 3 of the longest years of my life, it's clear that the system itself needs to change. Right now, St. Louis is struggling. Our neighbors are hurting. They need shelter, affordable housing, food, fair wages, dependable childcare, schools, safe streets, and a better quality of life. They need advocates who genuinely understand and support their causes to be heard. I believe that there are leaders out there who can make a difference. The question is, how are you getting involved? How are you lifting your voice up? How can we collaborate to work towards a better future for all? #community #advocacy #collaboration #equity #StLouis

This staggering number reflects a growing crisis: the scarcity of loving and nurturing foster homes in communities across the country. These communities – in every corner of the U.S. – are struggling to find loving and capable foster homes for vulnerable children. The magnitude of this crisis can feel overwhelming, but your workplace can make a difference by taking the FosterMore pledge to become a #fostercarefriendly workplace and providing flexibility to accommodate the needs of foster families. So, in honor of #FosterCareMonth, here's a clip from an #RMT with #FosterMore on the subject. Visit their website to take their pledge. https://lnkd.in/gCVvqBsr

DYK, Mutual Housing residents are linked with #affordablehousing advocacy opportunities both locally and statewide? Results from a consumer survey by NeighborWorks America, highlight the disconnect many are feeling with policymakers, with 75% feeling left out of the #affordablehousing conversation. In the spirit of #neighborworksweek, we’re celebrating the opportunities for connection we have successfully made this year between residents and State Legislators, California Housing and Community Development Department leaders, the State Treasurer, Sacramento Mayor, and other local elected officials. As residents are able to share their lived experiences, they are able to provide keen insights for decision makers and help to inform their policy choices surrounding severe housing shortage challenges. https://lnkd.in/giN72QwX

This month, we celebrate the strength and resilience of those in recovery. 🏠 Recovery homes play a crucial role in providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals on their journey to sobriety. However, did you know that many recovery homes in residential neighborhoods face challenges due to outdated zoning policies? Individuals in recovery are covered under the protected class of disability, and may request reasonable accommodations that are needed to use and enjoy their housing. An example of this could include a recovery home that needs a change in zoning policy to locate a home for unrelated individuals in recovery in a residential neighborhood. Denying this request is not just a policy issue—it’s discriminatory. Local zoning boards must recognize that recovery homes are essential for community health and well-being. Let’s advocate for fair zoning that supports recovery and inclusivity. 💪 #NationalRecoveryMonth #RecoveryHomes #FairHousingFriday #CommunitySupport #EndDiscrimination
