The dynamics between an advisor, an attorney, and the client are different in every relationship, and may even change over time. What's important is that advisors and attorneys figure out how to put their unique expertises together to best meet the client's goals. In the first installment of our Summer School event series, Patrick Carlson and Erica Ellis tackle the topic of how advisors and attorneys can work together more effectively and answer audience questions. Bring your questions—on this topic or others—and join us live on June 6th: https://hubs.ly/Q02yZBst0

Every student in law school should read this.
Enough young lawyers have asked me how I wound up in my line of work — many of whom seem to be seeking a sense of purpose and worth in their own lives — that I wrote something I hoped could address both. My newest Substack: https://lnkd.in/gDnVDZQd

I Help Lawyers Create the Law Practice of their Dreams | Legal Counsel for Franchisees and Small Business Buyers & Sellers | #LawyerDad
Summer break has begun. Which, among many things, means I don’t have to set and wake up to an alarm each morning to get my daughter up for school. Instead, I can sleep until I naturally wake up. Of course, there may be occasions when I have to get up at a particular time, such as having to take my daughter to 4H camp, for instance. But otherwise I can turn waking over to my natural body rhythms. That means I wake up feeling refreshed rather than sluggish. I don’t need coffee or caffeine to get me going. It is much easier to start the day with a smile on my face. This is one of the biggest benefits for me of summer break. And one of the biggest benefits of having my own law practice that I have deliberately designed. I know that I need to take my mornings slow. Not because I am tired, but because my body doesn’t like to rush. In college and law school, my worst classes were often the first ones of the day. The amount of caffeine I drank didn’t matter. Litigation was difficult because court started at 9am. While that might not sound too early to you, my body and mind just weren’t ready to deal with the crowds, my client, the opposing side, and the necessary thinking at that time. I would never make it in a law firm job that required me to be there by 7:30am. So why would I create my law practice to require it? You might be an early bird, jumping out of bed ready to face dragons. You might be a night owl, doing your best work after the sun goes down. Or you might be somewhere in between. What is important is to know yourself. Know when you do your best work. And design your practice around that. Otherwise, what is the use of having your own practice? Are you an early bird 🐦 or a night owl 🦉? #LawyerLife #LawPractice #BeIntentional #LawFirmDesign #NML

Greetings everyone, As the Supreme Court is conducting its clerkship examination this year, I have received inquiries regarding preparation strategies: a. Thoroughly review recent developments, and consider utilizing resources such as Live Law digests. b. Part I of the examination is a qualifying test that emphasizes analytical skills over rote memorization. c. Part II is the scoring section, and this year it consists of three questions, as opposed to last year's two. I recommend initiating practice sessions. The Supreme Court has uploaded a sample question paper; make sure to go through it. The second paper will be a race against time, emphasizing the importance of effective time management. Consistent practice in this area will undoubtedly be beneficial. Best of luck with your preparations!

Belonging is a child being able to see examples of who they are and hope to be in what they are learning. It's like how my daughter saw judges and attorneys who looked like her in her learning journey, inspiring her own aspirations to become an attorney. This representation can powerfully shape a student's future like it did my daughter, Howard University Legal Communications major. 🔗Get more insights in our complimentary 'Inclusivity' Checklist: https://bit.ly/42q2UD8
