In 2024 R2, Ansys Sherlock can now automate the process of taking a BGA component from the parts list and modelling it in greater detail for a streamlined export to Ansys Mechanical. Previously, this had to be done manually, and the automation of this process will now save users time and manual effort when it comes to generating detailed BGA models. 💡 💡 Nonlinear Adaptivity (NLAD) in Ansys Mechanical is a powerful feature designed to help engineers confidently adapt large deflection simulations. The NLAD feature automatically repairs mesh distortion, overcomes convergence difficulties, and refines the mesh to capture local phenomena, ensuring accurate design solutions. This is particularly useful in scenarios where large deformation solutions are analyzed using the finite element method, which can often lead to convergence issues due to mesh distortion. Ansys Mechanical has streamlined the setup of the Nonlinear Adaptive Region, making it simple and straightforward. The mesh-quality-based criteria, if specified, can automatically use local remeshings to correct a distorted mesh, which helps to maintain the initial mesh grading and reduce overhead caused by remapping during the solution. Additionally, the Geometry Preserving Adaptivity (GPAD) capability in Ansys Mechanical leverages the Ansys meshing capability and the robust nonlinear adaptivity feature. It automatically refines the mesh adaptively to improve solution accuracy, while preserving the initial geometry. This supports linear analysis, lower and higher-order tetrahedral elements, elastic and elastoplastic materials, and contact capabilities, among others.
