Optimizing GA-230 Rotary Vane Pump Performance in Oil & Gas company I recently completed a case study in one of the oil and gas companies, focusing on a GA-230 rotary vane displacement pump used to transfer bitumen at a flow rate of 50 m³/hr and a differential pressure of 5.5 bar. The pump was experiencing significant operational challenges, including: 1-Low flow rate at elevated product temperatures 2-High vibration levels during full-speed operation of the variable frequency drive (VFD) 3- Motor overload trips at 80% or higher of full rated speed To tackle these issues We employed several analytical methods, including vibration analysis using the CSI 2130, root cause analysis, and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA). Additionally, I utilized CAESAR II for piping analysis to assess the impact of the system design on pump performance. As a result of these investigations, we implemented targeted modifications to the pump suction and discharge piping supports, which led to improved stability and efficiency. I want to extend my sincere thanks to Mohamed Elshamy Asset Management and Reliability Engineer for giving me the opportunity to work on this project. I learned a great deal and am grateful for the experience. This project underscored the critical nature of thorough analysis in mechanical systems and the importance of continuous improvement in industrial processes.
