🔔 Planning to attend the London Build Expo this year? Let's connect to delve into all things retrofit! Achieving net zero emissions by 2050 requires decarbonising 65% of existing commercial buildings by 2030, demanding a threefold increase in the current retrofitting rate. Prompt action by portfolio managers is crucial to avoid financial penalties, workforce shortages, and extended product lead times. Lack of a clear retrofit strategy often leads to indecision among clients. At Mace we support portfolio managers, owners, landlords, and advisors in unlocking retrofit 🔓 . Excited to share my upcoming sessions at the event: - Panel: Can Technological Solutions Alone Drive Us Towards Net Zero? 🚀Steps of Progress in TU Delft's historic building renovations! As part of the #SMARTeeSTORY project, the historic Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft is getting some new smart widgets this summer! These will be installed over an area spanning two floors and impact the workspaces of approximately 40 researchers. 🔧 What's Happening? Installation of over 150 sensors provided by Tera srl to measure indoor environmental quality (IEQ) conditions such as air temperature, air humidity, and illuminance. Arrival of additional sensors from Schneider Electric to monitor occupant behavior and aid in the development of our Building Management System (BMS). 🌍 Why It Matters: This phase is a major step towards our overarching goal of transforming historic buildings into examples of 'smart' and energy-efficient building stock in the EU. By first collecting data on real conditions and user behaviour, we will be able to integrate advanced personal comfort models through machine learning. 💡 Looking Ahead: The final installation of these cutting-edge sensors began in June 2024, just in time for summer monitoring. This milestone is a testament to the collaborative effort and innovative spirit driving the SMARTeeSTORY project forward. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to lead the way towards setting new standards of comfort and energy efficiency. 💺🔋 Learn more about the sensors 👉https://lnkd.in/dVfSj6F7 A shout to our partners making the ball roll for progress in the demonstration! What is a Smart Building? A building that knows you. It adjusts lights. It tunes the temperature. It saves energy and the planet while you work, live, or relax. And MUCH MORE... ▶️ For people: It ensures comfort, safety, and productivity. ▶️For the planet: It cuts energy use, reduces waste, and embraces sustainability. ▶️For profit: It lowers costs and boosts property value. ▶️For performance: It evolves with technology, becoming smarter every day. But here’s the truth: Being smart doesn’t always mean using the most advanced tech. It’s about: ▶️Smart thinking: Integrating systems that work together. ▶️Holistic design: Considering people, planet, and profit together. ▶️Purpose-driven choices: Focusing on impact, not just innovation. ▶️Simple measures: Natural ventilation or natural lighting. Smartness isn’t in the tools... It’s in the approach. It’s about designing buildings that adapt, evolve, and make a difference. What’s your take? Are smart buildings about technology or intention? It was a pleasure to speak this topic at the Smart Buildings Summit alongside brilliant professionals like Azmi Aboulhoda, Nabil Shahin, Casey Rutland and Hassan Abou Jawhar. #MajdTalks #smartbuildings #sustainability #netzero

The #EAPlab at Università degli Studi di Perugia, led by Anna Laura Pisello, is using Numa for research at the forefront of human-centered design to improve comfort and energy efficiency in buildings. The unusual octopus-like HVAC air distribution system shown below allows the researchers to easily adjust the height of each Numa air vent as well as the lateral position in order to easily test different positions relative to the desk occupants. We look forward to seeing what they learn by leveraging this new test space.
