When surgeons report range of motion outcomes we most often use visual estimation in studies. In this study with the PacWest Shoulder Society we found that there is variability between surgeons in range of motion estimates. This was improved with the use of digital devices which should in my view become our standard for patient assessment and research. In a month’s time, I’ll be heading to the hospital for a hip resurfacing operation. A couple of years ago, a surgeon informed me that the pain in my groin was actually due to early osteoarthritis in my hip, and I would need a new one! Being under 50, this news was quite shocking. I initially opted for an arthroscopy, which provided relief for a couple of years. However, as the pain returned, I consulted another surgeon who had previously operated on my daughter’s legs. He suggested that, given my age, hip resurfacing would be the best option- the same operation as Andy Murray had done. It’s more of an augmentation than a full replacement. This approach resonated with me because it aligns with what we do at Teneo. You’ve invested in technology that works for you, but it’s not perfect. We strive for simplification through innovation. Instead of suggesting a complete replacement, we explore ways to augment and extract more value from existing solutions.
