Define what you make by the benefit it offers them, offer support, insights, and communities that support that benefit as a replacement for the top of your funnel and the lead in your sales pitch. 3. You know who you are

If you’re celebrating #Halloween, #Samhain, or All Souls’ Eve tonight, I hope it brings moments of magic and an encounter with Mystery 🎃 Ella Miodownik, Christopher Usher and I have been researching pedagogies that can help urban youth create an emotional connection with places and species. One of the emerging themes is awareness of the existence of #IndigenousKnowledges and #LocalWaysOfKnowing. An important aspect of #DecolonialEducation and #ReIndigenisation is learning the difference between culture appreciation and cultural appropriation. How can we find our own paths in our own places, while honouring and celebrating all the wisdom and insight that intact Indigenous cultures are willing to share with us? What tools do we have at our disposal for re-enchanting landscapes and falling back in love with the creatures who inhabit them? One is the rediscovery of folklore - myths, legends, odes, ballads, proverbs, riddles, and more - from our own lands, or at least as close to home as we can get. Tales of shapeshifters (people who become animals, or vice-versa, or human-animal hybrids, or gods and goddesses with animal characteristics) and portals (places where mortal humans enter the ‘Otherworld’, or Otherworldly beings enter our world) aren’t just pretty bedtime stories for children. They carry vital lessons about power, consciousness and #intersubjectivity - the ability to encounter a seal, an owl or an oak as a living being, as a ‘someone’ that we can engage with and learn from, rather than a passive object or, worse still, ‘natural resources’. They often have a cautionary tale, too - a warning to the humans who break their promises or are too proud to listen! Last year in #EncounteringEcosystems, we talked about Native American and Australian Aboriginal beliefs and practices. We got inspired by brilliant writers like Robin Wall Kimmerer, Tyson Yunkaporta, and Gary Paul Nabhan. This year we’re doing the same - and more, with a deeper dive into the #mythology and symbolism of this island’s own #Brythonic / #Celtic heritage.
