How Delivery Businesses Can Reduce Their Carbon Footprint Natural disasters are becoming increasingly common due to climate change. Reducing our carbon footprint is crucial. Transportation is the largest contributor to the US's carbon footprint, and the number of delivery fleets is rapidly growing. What Is a Carbon Footprint? The amount of CO2 emitted from activities involving the burning of fossil fuels, measured in tonnes. The growth of e-commerce has increased delivery demand, leading to more vehicles and emissions. Many companies still use inefficient route planning methods. The Role of Route Planning Inefficient routes increase fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Sustainable practices can enhance your company's reputation. Economic Solutions Here are some economical solutions for today: Efficient Route Planning: Use software to optimize delivery routes. Regular Vehicle Maintenance: Improve fuel efficiency. Driver Training: Train drivers in eco-friendly driving methods. (More on this in a separate article) Reducing carbon emissions in last-mile delivery is essential for sustainable development and preserving our planet's ecology. #Sustainability #lastmiledelivery #softwarefordeliveries #CarbonFootprint #Optiway #EcoFriendly #ClimateChange #RoutePlanner

ANALYSIS: The Green Last Mile Europe 2024 report from Last Mile Experts The increasing global temperature, estimated to cause approximately 1.0°C of warming above pre-industrial levels and potentially reaching a critical threshold of 1.5°C between 2027 and 2042, highlights urgent environmental challenges. These challenges are exacerbated by the #carbonemissions associated with the recent surge in #ecommerce and #parceldelivery vehicles. A UPIDO forecast that e-commerce parcel delivery could contribute up to 5.5 million metric tonnes of CO2 by 2032 underscores the need for drastic action in the logistics sector to mitigate these effects. More importantly, we could potentially reduce this carbon footprint by over 91% in just a decade or, to put it more visually, save over one forest the size of the Black Forest in this time. Our Sustainability Report is Out! To showcase all the data we’ve brought together, our Director of Sustainability Dominique Mamcarz and Associate Director of Sustainability Caryn-Ann Allen come together for a fireside chat. Together they explain what motivates us to publish a report annually and include some key takeaways you don’t want to miss out on. Alongside the points Dominique and Caryn-Ann discuss, you’ll want to note in 2023 we became the first global parcel delivery company to have both our near- and long-term CO2 emissions-reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Our local businesses have equally acted strong, and below is but a sampling of their achievements DPD UK has a solar vehicle parking canopy and plans to install a solar array on the roof by the end of 2024. DPD Deutschland has already saved almost 600 tonnes of CO2 by transporting parcels by rail. DPD Hungary Kft. has installed a 50 kW solar panel system consisting of 150 panels on their roof, which covers around one-third of the electricity consumption in the distribution centre. DPD Nederland has partnered with transport company Rebro to reduce their carbon emissions with the first electric Longer Heavier Vehicle (LHV). New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show more transportation & storage sector companies (16.1%) said they were ‘very concerned’ about the impact of climate change than any other business sector. However, the home delivery expert Parcelhero says the results also reveal many businesses are not transforming that concern into action. That will also have a knock-on effect on the carbon footprint of retailers using their services. Parcelhero’s Head of Consumer Research, David Jinks M.I.L.T., says: ‘Encouragingly, more transportation & storage companies have a net zero emissions target than any other sector (8%). However, when it comes to putting targets into practice, the results show transportation companies have introduced fewer green initiatives than most other sectors.

In 2023, SF Express released the first "Carbon Target White Paper" in the express delivery industry, outlining its plan to achieve a 55% improvement in carbon efficiency by 2030 compared to the base year of 2021. The company aims to reduce the carbon footprint of each express parcel by 70%, aspiring to create a climate-friendly express delivery system. Aligned with the theme of "Green Logistics, Low Carbon Life," SF Express incorporates environmental protection throughout the entire process of express delivery, focusing on technological innovation. This spans from packaging and transportation to transshipment, enhancing resource utilization, and reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption at every stage. SF Express initiated the "Green Plan" to technologically transform packaging and create environmentally friendly, reduced-volume express packaging. Since the inception of the plan, they have cumulatively saved approximately 66,000 tons of paper and 16,000 tons of plastic, resulting in a total reduction of around 175,000 tons of carbon emissions. In the realm of green transportation, SF Express continues to deploy new energy logistics vehicles, with an estimated deployment scale of around 18,000 vehicles in 2021. The company is also exploring the widespread use of natural gas vehicles, upgrading the "Green Fleet" with energy-saving technologies. https://lnkd.in/dwdis-rr #eTower #SFExpress #Carbonfootprint #Climatefriendlyexpress #Greenlogistics #Lowcarbon
