Innovation comes from idea, not technology In world war II, the Germans achieved 'Remote Monitoring' of landing flights, very long before the coining of the term 'IoT'. They had a arrangement like this - their pilots should roll their planes as they return to base, so it would change the reflecting radio signal. This procedure alerted the ground radar crew if the German planes returning or the not allied aircraft. It was one of the first passive ways to identify an object using a radio frequency signal, which was known as “identify friend or foe (IFF).” This method is considered to be the root of the later invented RFID technology. #iot #iotexpo

LEO satellite dominant in spate of NTN deals There was a time when atmospheric options such as balloons and drones dominated NTN (non-terrestrial network) trials and developments, but it is now nearly all about satellite, mostly emerging LEO constellations. That may partly reflect earlier failure of stratospheric trials, such as Google’s infamous Project Loon. But it is also down to the fact that LEO is now increasingly available as a viable option providing global coverage for IoT services, filling in gaps in mainstream mobile services for sparsely populated areas, or for backhaul.
