What an extraordinary day of firsts it turned out to be. I’m immensely proud to have continued the judging process for the new Trailblazer Award today, alongside my fellow judges Hollie Whittles from Purple Frog Systems Ltd and Michael Wright from Aico, for the upcoming #SBAwards, put on by Shropshire Chamber of Commerce. We encountered four remarkable businesses, each surpassing expectations and embodying the essence of the award. Their distinctive attributes truly set them apart. It was great to discover that three out of the four finalists were situated within 2 miles of each other, with some even collaborating. Among the highlights of the day were, throwback to some vintage tech from Preloved Tech Ltd and their links to Icehocky, exploring exiting new premises at Exascale and moving a cherry picker for a picture, to testing equipment and implementing barcoding for product traceability at CEL Group and finally, experiencing a live demonstration of stud seaman harvesting at Stallion AI Services……Yes, you read that correctly – it certainly made for an eventful day! A common thread among all four finalists was their passion. This contributed to the diligent deliberation and number-crunching that followed. Each participant has already become a winner by making it this far. My key takeaway? Let’s take pride in being part of Shropshire and cherish the incredible businesses that call it home. #business #businessawards #trailblazer #innovation #shropshire #awards #wealthmanagement #judges #internationaltrade #collaberation

Another week wrapped. Traffic Management and beyond can now exploit our on/off hiring system, fully integrated into our BoQ. 📆 Re-flow is optimised, flexible and configurable enough it can slot in to what ever stage your business is at, covering multiple verticals/works - from a few operatives, all the way to having 1000’s. 📈 Many claim to be a one size fits all, but can’t deliver, and outgrowing software is a real pain. Or, a business might be too small to implement an ERP. Flexibility is power in being able to control and configure the way you work. 👍 Re-flow’s new hiring element has been in for a few months now. Have you tried it? Why settle for a clunky hiring system, that ‘kind of works’ and has bolted on frankenstein updates to patch holes in functionality? Our simplified interface and seemless integration enables you to: Set parameters around the hire length, such as time, and automate the data direct back to the office as the equipment is placed on site.🚦🚧 Want to know more about our hire feature, or Re-flow? Reach out to our team on 01392 574001 or www.re-flow.co.uk We also have an imminent fatigue update - that covers the working time directive, to further build on our mission around safety in the industry. ⛑️👷♂️👷♀️ Our work continues and we strive to bring you the highest quality support alongside the most powerful field operations system on the market. 💫 Need a system that covers multiple work types and sectors? We have you covered! ✅Scheduling Schemes/Frameworks ✅Automated workflows ✅A.I Reporting and visualisation ✅Connect to any software with our API ✅Offline working ✅A team that understands your industry ✅Reach ISO ambitions ✅Highways - Civils - Rail Hope you all have a great weekend, and we’ll see you on the other side. #highwayssoftware #healthandsafety #sustainabilty #fieldservicemanagement #reflowfieldmanagement #operations

#GradSchoolLife + #StartUpLife: Doing overdue homework & applying for a #hackathon, #application due at midnight, instead of driving an hour each way from Cookeville to Nashville to listen to this band after giving a keynote to undergrads. I had stayed the whole day to network and immerse in Tenn Tech culture. The trade off was then not immersing in the music or nightlife culture of Tennessee. You can’t do it all. I chose more time with the students. Since selling my car when I moved to #NYC it was only my second time driving since then (in ~5 years). I still am perfectly confident on the roads but doing too much and burning the candle on both ends had given me a slight migraine. Driving at night with bright lights from cars is a known trigger. I had to be sensible (as annoying and frustrating as it is to be sensible). Stayed in and ordered Cajun while trying to get my #systemsdynamics model to work on clunky, non-intuitive software that Massachusetts Institute of Technology and MIT Sloan School of Management professors love to use. Renting the car? Wow. An ordeal. The counter, in a far corner, was not visible, so I waited on hold to get customer service and was misdirected to go directly to the lot. After walking in several wrong directions, and tripping over a curb and falling very in gracefully with all my luggage, was told at the lot to go back to the terminal and find the counter. Then, despite the promise otherwise, the car I got both lacked phone charging and navigation and was told to go back to the terminal again. At that point I gave up because with the flight delay and this inefficiency, I was already two hours late for dinner with the dean. I made it through the hour drive without my phone, used for navigation, dying. The mild headache that I had started with in Boston got worse, but still was manageable. (I had thought to just Uber but was uncertain how reliable that would be in a small college town in Tennessee. Plus, when I looked up the cost of Nashville to Cookeville Uber, it was >$150 each way.) Life is full of FOMO. I also missed out on the #startup and #entrepreneurship mixer at Harvard Innovation Labs last night and Japan Night by the MIT Sloan Fellows MBA Program cohort. Until I find a way to clone myself, these things will happen. Luckily, now am well rested enough to hike to some nearby waterfalls. Had hoped to get to the Smokey Mountains but that too is not realistic for this trip, with 3-4 hour drives each way and a flight tonight. Tomorrow is booked up with class group meetings for assignments. #GradStudentLife I might be a city gal but do love to get into nature. “Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life.” -John Muir https://lnkd.in/eUswVz6s

Innovation in southern Ontario is propelled by visionary companies like CABN, backed by NCFDC’s thriveFORWARD initiative. A vision for sustainability and transformation led Jackson Wyatt to found CABN: a sustainable prefab home builder specializing in manufacturing net-zero, energy efficient modular homes. CABN uses cross-laminated timber, providing durable spaces that will last for generations. Wyatt aimed to make a difference on the housing front. CABN’s off-grid capabilities allow people to build homes affordably and on a quick turn-around—CABN’s homes can be fully assembled and constructed within weeks. Since its launch in May 2023, CABN has been selling homes across North America. Having recently opened a 90,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Quinte, CABN was the recipient of matching thriveFORWARD funding for innovation, enabling investments to scale the business to meet demand. thriveFORWARD invested in a total of 113 tech start-ups like CABN, plus 65 established SMEs across southern Ontario, a regional innovation project made possible with the support of Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario | Agence fédérale de ... (FedDev Ontario) and the 🍁 Government of Canada. #OntarioMade https://lnkd.in/guv8i3qy
