How can we use more of the tree? 🌳 A very important question circulating the sustainable architecture, engineering and forestry world. It is clear we need to build more buildings with timber, but we also need to learn how to use a lot less of it, for our very small supply in the UK to go further. Studio Bark hosted a timber workshop with students from UEL School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering that asked this same question. Finding ways to use smaller and lower grade timber in a structural system. This included round timber ‘spindles’ and columns using the inherent strength of the trunk and allowing smaller cross sections to be used. It is inspiring to be involved with the UEL Construction Week each year, and the huge amount of sustainable and social innovation and care which comes out of it. #timberconstruction #sustainableconstruction
Our Master of Architecture students presented their projects to industry experts during Construction Week. A big thank you to AKT II and Studio Bark for mentoring our aspiring architects. #architecturedesign #uel #ACEatUEL #Sugarcrete #sustainablearchitecture Bamdad Ayati Armor Gutiérrez Rivas
