"As first meetings go it was unusual to say the least. Arriving at #Gravner’s winery, situated on a hill in #Collio with a commanding view of the #Slovenian #border some 200 metres away, I was greeted by #Joško Gravner the iconic winemaker who, without really saying hello, proceeded to clean my walking boots with an air hose. Joško then reappeared some two hours later after I been shown around this compact #family-run winery (with clean shoes) to drink wine and explain his #philosophy of #winemaking – speaking intensely for five minutes at a time while our translator desperately tried to keep up before Joško launched into yet another lengthy answer". This is how peter dean begins his story for The Buyer, after a direct experience we had with the iconic Gravner winery, with Joško, Mateja Gravner and her son Gregor. But the piece is also about the story of a special territory where they are located and the cultural fabric of which they are part. Enjoy the reading! Great article about Napa Cabs. I personally love a Cab with more structure reminiscent of a Bordeaux, but there is a huge following behind Napa Cab producers that make a less terroir driven, more winemaker-driven (or dare I say consumer-driven) Cab. Winemakers probably wouldn’t make if ppl didn’t buy it, but I love that an honest conversation about the wine in our region is being had. What are your thoughts?

“Allegretto Vineyard Resort - the vineyards here are planted in different directions, and with different spacing between the vines and the rows. It was sensory and metaphysical in determining what each grape variety desired. You may think this is rather esoteric; however, when you taste the wines, the magic will enlighten you in your experience.” Read more about it in the newest edition of the book Exploring Wine Regions: The Central Coast of California. #winelover #winetasting #winesofcalifornia

Incredible, Old-Vine Cabernet Franc from Loire Valley 🇫🇷 Laurent writes, "Without question, Loire is one of the most interesting wine regions in the world. I say "most interesting" because the wines of Loire Valley express character unlike any other place on earth. Immediately, the Sauvignon Blancs of Sancerre or the Chenin Blancs of Vouvray may come to mind, but I find the most unique character is revealed in the Cabernet Franc wines of Saumur, Chinon, Bourgueil and in particular, St. Nicolas de Bourgueil. While the individuality of all these regions is impressive, it is the pure expression and subtle distinction shown in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil that is, for me, one of the most fascinating aspects of the Cabernet Franc from Loire. With the increasingly warm temperatures in the Loire Valley, Cab Franc is experiencing a renaissance, reaching consistent levels of ripeness that ensure an explosion of concentrated fruit flavors, soft tannins and textural richness that are coupled with a refreshing acidity, complex minerality and impeccable balance. Today’s wine, l’Éclosion — an old-vine Cabernet Franc from Cave Bruneau-Dupuy — is a textbook example of St Nicolas de Bourgueil… The wine is elegant, pure and complex, a sure sign that winemaker Sylvain Bruneau has mastered all the intricacies of Cabernet Franc and the region — in both the vineyard and the cellar — perfectly encapsulating all the nuances of the varietal and its terroir." On special this week: 2021 Cave Bruneau-Dupuy l'Éclosion St. Nicolas de Bourgueil Usually $30, take advantage of 10% off 1-5 bottles ($27/BTL) and 15% off 6+ bottles ($25.50/BTL) for this week only (2/23/24 through 2/29/24). Beyond Napa in great North Coast The North Coast AVA is one of the most important regions in California with the most famous appellations and above that we also have the Far North. But if we look beyond Napa and Sonoma Valley, we see even more appellations in the North Coast that can be described as great. What you encounter here is real passion for grapes, resulting in incredibly good wines that can compete with the world class from France. As we often see in America, the appellations follow the borders of the counties. The North Coast has six appellations north of beautiful Napa. To the northwest is Mendocino with Lake County to the east. Below Mendocino we find Sonoma County with Napa County to the east. Solano County is located in the far southeast of Napa. Finally, northwest of the famous Golden Gate Bridge lies Marin County. However, here we do not find separate sub-appellations. Given its location, it is not surprising that Mendocino has the same wine style as its southern sister Sonoma. While Lake County has the same wine style as Napa. Elegance and organic wines from Mendocino county Traditionally, wines from Mendocino County were only consumed locally. However, thanks to modern distribution options, the rest of the world can also enjoy these wines. Mendocino County stretches across several narrow valleys and has one of the most rugged, unspoiled coastlines in California. It is striking that the general appellation, Mendocino AVA, does not apply to the entire county. It is one of the largest wine regions in California, but in terms of plantings it is anything but. Most vineyards are found in the south of the county. https://lnkd.in/eCMiRf2j #wine #winelover #wijn #wijnliefhebber #wset

Dynamis Estate Wines | North Carolina 2024 🍇 https://lnkd.in/eW6x2C3r There is a story behind every brand. Here is ours. Dynamis is defined as the potential to obtain limitless power. We symbolize our winemaking journey with the Greek delta. In mathematics the delta has the ability to change the value of any variable. In the same way, a combination of people, place and time can overcome any obstacle in the pursuit of perfection. Our wine represents the path to create Dynamis. Our mission at Dynamis Estate Wines is to achieve premium-quality without compromise. This philosophy drives every decision we make—from vineyard to winery to tasting lodge and everywhere in between. We hand-harvest fruit during the cool cover of darkness and pick grapes into small harvest bins to maintain fruit integrity. Careful cluster and berry sorting ensure fruit quality. Gentle destemming and fruit movement in our fermentation tanks, with an elegant selection of glassware and closures, creates a memorable tasting experience that leaves you wanting more. We handcraft our wines in small lots with the pinnacle of quality in mind and monitor every drop with surgical precision creating a time capsule in a bottle to enjoy for years to come, one vintage after another.

Giorgio Galli and Roberto Cipresso are working on the blue print of the new hotel and vineyard layout. The magic starts with the “Path of Charles”, a journey in the evolution of the grapes from the beginning of the civilization to the present. This path will show how artificial selection works as a selection of the grapes varieties to produce better wines.
