Designers of the Dibang RCC dam (278 m high, India) We are pleased to say that National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has appointed Studio Pietrangeli (with Smec India) for the design and supervision of construction of Dibang Dam, in the Himalayan mountains in Arunachal Pradesh. The dam is a gravity RCC structure, 278 m high, that will become the world’s highest and largest RCC dam, once completed.
Investigation started a decade ago......and hope soon will start construction of such a Mega Hydro Project.
Congratulations! You may even consider using our Fibretron GLASS FIBRE REINFORCED POLYMER (GFRP) Rebars for construction in place of Steel TMT bars. It is 2x Stronger, 4 times lighter and 40% cheaper as compared to Steel. It is non- corrosive and increases lifecycle by 2 times and reduces carbon emissions by 80%. It is also BIS and IRC approved. Great. It shall increase confidence of all stakeholders of hydropower development in northeast India
Studio Pietrangeli has decades of effective experience in designing and implementation of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) dams. Congratulations!
Let us wish for the active implementation of this project which is languishing since a decade on one or the other reason
Good luck. Take care of Geological investigation because we faced problems earlier in Himalaya.
Such a stellar project..a benchmark in so many ways..
Complimenti un’ulteriore conferma di una eccellenza italiana

9moNHPC design team that time designed the dam. Dilemma waa was that as huge and big spillway gates were to be provided at the bottom level of the dam for effective flushing the huge upstream reservoir, then how to do it in a RCC dam. Other appurtenant structures are also to be provided for energy dissipation etc .Huge concrete is also to be poured in the lower section of the dam. So the construction schedule and methodology became a question. am curious about your planning to understand.
