✨ Our Design Guidance for Public Spaces is OUT ✨ 🌳 According to UN-Habitat research, well-functioning cities have around 50% of their surface area dedicated to public space. Public spaces such as sidewalks, streets, playgrounds, gardens, plazas, marketplaces, squares, parks, and waterfronts are areas for social interaction, economic exchange, cultural expression and building climate resilience. Yet often, the multifunctional potential of public spaces is not well reflected in their design. ✏️ Prepared by C40 Cities, this guidance aims to support cities to improve the provision and quality of #green and #thriving #public #spaces. Inside, you can find common design principles, multiple practical actions and inspiring case studies from around the world. ➡️ Link to access: https://lnkd.in/eBn7Fz2P 🔗 Download the document to able to click and access the hyperlinks and extra sources Vivian Monteiro Malta Camille Tallon Michael O'Neill Costanza De Stefani Priyanka Premlal Ellie White Emma Goddard Isabelle Ward alice kaumba Stephanie Patterson Benedetta Camerini Aagya Purohit Gurunathan Karthik Camila Herrero Thure Krarup Jesse Shapins Astrid Vilhelm Hansen Cassie Sutherland Demetrio Scopelliti Xavier Matilla Neda Kostandinovic Zermina Toghey Mark Watts Gunjan Parik Cléa Daridan Jo Jewell

Patios, too, require a sturdy foundation. While they can certainly enhance your home’s aesthetics and provide an enjoyable outdoor space, large cracks can undermine their functionality. https://bit.ly/42daOit #foundationrepair #homestructuralrepair #basementwallrepair

Communications for impact 🌍 Re-imagining life in the city // Communications Officer & Regional and Economic Development graduate
Who wouldn't like to live in a city designed by kids?! Play and discovery would be integrated in all aspects of urban life, colors would be highly important, accesibility and safety would be top priorities and almost natural outcomes and well... it would be fun! Interesting quotes from the article: "Children are natural empathic designers who instinctively seek environments that provide safety, inspiration, and room to explore. Integrating this design ethos into broader community planning leads to spaces that promote joy, learning, and unity. The results are aesthetically pleasing and yield a stronger, more resilient social fabric." "By involving children in the placemaking process, cities instill a sense of civic pride and responsibility in younger generations and foster more engaged, forward-thinking communities." "Co-designed with kids in mind, this urban oasis fosters inclusivity and wonder, becoming a beacon for multi-generational connection and shared experiences." #citiesforpeople #lifeinthecity #urbanism #creativeplacemaking #urbandevelopment
Discover how child-centric urban design is transforming the future of cities in Latin America! 🌟 Our latest article dives into innovative initiatives like the ones in Mexico City and Santiago, where public spaces are thoughtfully redesigned to accommodate and engage all generations. Click here to understand why it's crucial to involve our youngest citizens as co-creators of their environments: https://lnkd.in/gSJz6pu7 #MASSIVart #CreativePlacemaking #PlacemakingCreativo #UrbanDesign #DiseñoUrbano #UrbanPlanning #UrbanDevelopment 📸 Images: 1. The Six Qualities of Great Urban Places is a qualitative framework for designing places that deliver positive social, ecological, and economic outcomes. We first published this framework a few years ago. Now we've developed a new range of survey tools to help with the holistic analysis of places and their assets. The report is linked in the post below 👇
We've tested our Six Qualities urban design framework by analysing four award-winning Australian projects, including our designs for Darling Harbour and Flour Mill of Summer Hill on Gadigal Country, Sydney, and Herston Quarter and Riverside Green on Yugerra and Turrbal Country, Brisbane. Darling Harbour's urban realm has created an 'openly networked' destination by improving pedestrian and public transport access. Similarly, the Herston Quarter master plan demonstrates the value of 'conveniently compact' places where complementary functions are co-located. Flour Mill of Summer Hill underscores the importance of embracing a 'playfully dynamic' strategy within rapidly transforming neighbourhoods, while Riverside Green's adaptability reveals its 'naturally regenerative' quality. 🔗 Explore ‘Six Qualities’ 2.0 here: https://lnkd.in/gVk545cW 🔗 Explore the original ‘Six Qualities’ report here: https://lnkd.in/gPp3hcsH 📸 Photography by Simon Wood, Scott Burrows and Mark Syke #PlacesPeopleLove #UrbanDesign #LandscapeDesign #Sydney #Brisbane

Building a noise wall along a freeway? Let's not forget about the residents on the other side. At Wallmark, we prioritize both practicality and aesthetics to ensure our noise walls not only perform brilliantly but also enhance the visual appeal of your community. Because every detail matters, especially when it comes to creating harmonious living environments. #NoiseMitigation #CommunityAesthetics #BuildingBetterSpaces

Head of Business Development @BIOTONOMY | Helping develop Nature Based Solutions for Architectural & Construction Projects
Introducing BIOTONOMY's Vertical Forest - a Nature Based Urban design we are developing for one of Spain's major cities. This innovative wooden structure merges gardens, forests, and parks into a single multi-functional green space and serves as a wildlife sanctuary to safeguard diverse species and preserve biodiversity. The Vertical Forest addresses urban challenges by creating spaces for nature, relaxation, and community interaction. The ground floor offers a plaza for quick nature breaks and large community gatherings, while the first floor encourages smaller groups to connect with Nature. Deeper connections await on the second floor's living plant museums - where visitors can learn about local and global plants. The rooftop garden provides a peaceful retreat with stunning views. Designed with hydroponic Vertical Ecosystems and horizontal Botanical systems, the structure maximizes greenery in a compact urban area, enhancing beauty and supporting environmental sustainability with features like rainwater harvesting. Added elements like fountains and birdhouses enrich the atmosphere, boosting mental well-being through natural sounds. This project is an example of Nature Based urban design that aims to inspire and guide global cities facing similar challenges. Would you like to see this Nature Based design in your city?
