What a horrible thing to have happened at Pixar, one of the greatest storytelling companies of all time. Layoffs are part of running a business but it's still quite shocking that even Pixar's product is struggling to be sustainable. I'm not in the industry so I don't know why this is happening but if I had to guess I would wager that these are big external threats for Pixar: 👀 people not watching and paying for movie-length experiences in the same way 👀 🌏 cheaper talent from around the world has become undeniable; they are so cheap and so good you cannot NOT use them, and also 🌏 💻 remote work has become so relevant and efficient that the competitive advantage an employee has by physically being in the same city as the studio is shrinking 💻 📱 People may not care so much about technical quality anymore? I hate saying this and I hope I'm wrong about this but people's tastes when it comes to consuming media (especially young people) have shifted to prefer short-form media, and they can tolerate, and sometimes even prefer media with lower TECHNICAL quality. Technical quality is EXPENSIVE. 📱 🫧 the tech boom meant that there was a lot of money going around and many big companies expanded too much and overhired. In trying to also fight the streaming wars, Disney leaned too much into hiring new people and now they have to be let go. 🫧 What's the last Pixar movie you watched? Coco was the last one I saw (and it's very very good).

Each department brings its unique perspective, experiences, and challenges to the table. By combining our diverse insights, we've been able to craft games tailored to our specific needs and goals. What's truly remarkable is how these sessions transcend the traditional boundaries of hierarchy and job roles. Everyone's voice is valued, from interns to senior managers. It's amazing to see how ideas flow freely when there's a shared sense of purpose and a sprinkle of friendly competition. But it doesn't end there. The real magic happens when these brainstormed ideas come to life. Watching our ideas evolve from a whiteboard scribble to a fully-fledged game is incredibly rewarding. And the impact? Old and new problems🆕 FB principle as always - check the accounts since there is no way to open it, most likely FB could not write off the billing or hold hold. On 30% of new cabs such errors occur again. 🔖 You can fix it in two ways: 1️⃣ We knit two cards in the personal account and it will definitely be written off from one. 2️⃣ If it hasn’t been written off, then we knit a new card after warming up the FP and then it opens. If it’s still not open, we reassemble the RK, take the same creo and put it aside for the next day. #Meta #Tip

Between this and some networking - earlier this week I was able to work on a really fun ~2-day top secret gig with one of my favorite collaborators, amazingly talented Santa Fe photographer Kate Russell. Thank you, Kate, for bringing me on - it was truly a pleasure. 😍 Here’s what our ad agency friends had to say in an email from earlier today about working with us… “You all were a dream to work with!! Thank you for everything! We had such a good time…” which relates to today’s post-- building camaraderie is but a portion of how I get cross-functional teams to work together seamlessly. 💡 I'm extremely interested in opportunities in shifting my focus to Creative/Development/Producing for scripted episodic projects (TV/streaming). After such a great experience this week for a project that came together rather quickly, I’m extremely optimistic about the possibilities ahead of us even with all of the bad news we’re seeing daily. Things are changing rapidly, but I believe it will lead to culture shifting stories + important works that will challenge us all to do and be better!
