One of the most powerful ways to unite people is through #art. It’s time to see how #art can bring people together to build a better future, together. I'm delighted about our latest collaboration with Randi Zuckerberg’s the HUG 🤗, a global community for #artists. I'm thrilled to invite HUG 🤗's artists to showcase their creative visions for a better future through two open calls: "Economic Justice: Building a Just Future" and "Hope in Action: Transforming Tomorrow." Artists are encouraged to address key themes such as #EconomicJustice, #ClimateAction, #GenderEquality, #Peace, #FoodSecurity, and #Youth empowerment through various mediums like #painting, #sculpture, #performance, and #poetry. Selected artworks will be displayed at high-profile United Nations events, including the Summit of the Future in #NewYork and the UN #SDGAwards in #Rome. This initiative underscores the belief that our daily choices shape the world, promoting a hopeful, positive, and inclusive future. What do YOU unite for? Apply for free to exhibit your art with my team UN SDG Action Campaign and the HUG 🤗. We came far but we still have a long way to go, as a people, country, continent and a globe. On one hand I celebrate all the phenomenal womxn I’ve had the honour of meeting, the ones who’ve inspired in the distance and the ones long gone, the ancestors, who have left a legacy for their kin and beyond, craving paths and laying ground so we can walk In our droves, On the other hand today’s #WomensDay is bittersweet, as we live in a time and a country where almost 11 women are murdered daily and roughly 130 are raped, yet only 5% of rapists convicted. Noting that more than 10 lesbians are raped weekly to correct their sexual preferences. Where just under half of all South African women, have experienced emotional or economical abuse, and 25% to 40% have experienced sexual or physical IPV. While at the same time where strides are being made in HIV prevention, HIV prevalence is approximately two-fold higher in females aged 15–19 years and 20–24 years, and three-fold higher in females aged 25–29. And the incidence rate of cervical cancer in South Africa is reported between 22.8 and 27 per 100 000 women as compared to the global average of 15.8. Meanwhile South Africa is lagging behind in reducing maternal mortality and is unlikely to meet the 2030 global targets to reduce death of mothers to less than 70 per 100,000 live births. The picture this paints is anything but idyllic. Recognising these stats are not just numbers, they are devastation and trauma distilled. The reality is we are still failing our girls and womxn in 2024 and we need to do better. #WomensDay #DEI #Diversity #Equality #Equity #Feminism #GBV #IPV #Inclusion #IntersectionalFeminism

https://lnkd.in/e2Ji7yZm MODU: CHAPTER I PRELUDE It is the year 1953. Conflicts have been brewing worldwide for some time, encompassing various sectors of the economy and territorial disputes. Many countries are on high alert, anticipating a potential global sociopolitical crisis. The involvement of previously overlooked pro-environmental institutions has become imperative to mitigate resource scarcity and the planet Earth's deterioration. Numerous countries are hastily forming alliances, with not everyone making it into the first group, leading to the emergence of a second. All prior alliances are crumbling rapidly. Both groups of countries are at odds over their interests. Although they publicly announce mutual agreements to resolve their differences and reassert human survival as a common objective, many people remain skeptical about their leaders intentions due to several scandals. The existence of an organization operating at the highest echelons of every government worldwide is now public knowledge. They claim to be ensuring the well-being of their people. Rumors suggest that they have been actively intervening in each national department for an extended period, preparing for the impending crisis. #illustration #illustrations #illustrationart #illustrationoftheday #illustrationartists #illustrationgram #illustrationartist #illustrationwork #dystopian #dystopia #dystopianproject #dystopianfuture #art #artist #artwork #arte #artoftheday #artistic

Founder Madeleine Kozma has been teaching the art of moving images and contemporary video in Gävle. ART - Kultur Gävleborg works to inform, make available, and spread contemporary art within and outside the Gävleborg Region. They took the opportunity to interview Artarounds founder Madeleine Kozma. Here are five simple questions: Photo: Magnus Swärd Madeleine Kozma is currently a guest tutor at the Art School in Gävle, where she leads a film course. She has a background as a video and mixed-media artist and is the founder of ArtAround, a platform that makes contemporary art more accessible in both private and public settings. 1. What inspires you right now? As a professional artist, the work is dynamic, and so is the inspiration. The students show me new perspectives and approaches that are incredibly inspiring. 2. What is the biggest challenge in your creation? When I started making films, I didn't have a clear focus. I filmed a lot without knowing what it was going to be about and got stuck in the editing room. 3. Which themes recur in your work? I mainly work with issues and topics related to women's rights & identity. My orientation is inspired by artists like #AnaMendieta, who highlighted how art can be used for social and political change. These themes also characterize my company, #ArtAroundSweden, which aims to make contemporary art accessible to more people in an easier way. 4. Your best art experience? "The Infinite Mix" in London 2016 - a collaborative exhibition with pioneering video artists. 5. Any advice for your younger self? Trust the process. If you are driven and curious, you will get where you want to go as long as you keep moving forward. #art #teambuilding #konstkulturgavleborg #gavlekonstcentrum #regiongavleborg #workshop #inspiration #b2b

#WhatsYourStory Project Artist Spotlight: Davido Indongo - Full documentation video available at https://lnkd.in/dnF8NyqV Re-defining the art canon as it was based on Western academia and its colonial frame of reference through my current action research advocates for African art, artists, its literature, academia, pedagogy, and acknowledgment of indigenous knowledge systems in Africa and throughout the rest of the world. To this end, I explored individual artists ‘self-decolonial’ creative practices which include Davido Indongo during his participation in the #WhatsYourStory Project. Davido refers to himself as a 'graphic designer, videographer and artist' during his documentation process. At first glance the technique employed would infer influences by his graphic design and videography skills. According to Davido, he "visualizes the pointilism technique as mahangu grains" which he discovered during his creative exploration phase whilst spending time in the north of Namibia. I was working with a former supervisor and Course Director on a workshop series on decolonising practice that wants to consider approaches from the Global South and the Global North. While collaborating on a competition, we noticed how approaches and discourse on both sides differ which, in our view, are seldom consciously considered in discussions around decolonising language, canon, and collections, and decisions about representation, reparation and restitution. #ownership #decolonisingcuratorialpractice #africanartcanon #accessibility #whatsyourstory #decolonization #representation #rewritinghistory #interpretation #reclaiminghistories #africanart #museumsandgalleries #namibianart #namibian #whatsyourstorycatalogue #canonization #africanwriters #authentic
