Here, Jared Cooney Horvath, PhD, MEd synthesises key challenges - that also seem to reflect a concern of university leaders, around AI-based support. Namely, genAI that fails to bolster students’ ethical learning and human connection at scale has little value in higher education institutions. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gVfsHkwX #aiforlearning Harvard Business Publishing

What an exciting initiative! 🚀 🙏 The collaboration between Squirro, Liverpool Hope University, and Universidad del Norte touches on critical questions that will shape the future of education. The potential of intelligent solutions in teaching is immense, but it’s crucial to understand the very human concerns that come with them—whether it’s the fear of job displacement or the ethical considerations around data usage. As AI continues to evolve, initiatives like this are essential to ensuring that educators feel empowered, not displaced, and that the tech we build serves the collective good. I’m especially curious about the role that trust-building between educators and AI systems will play. 🤔 Looking forward to seeing the outcomes of this important research! Wishing you and the team success on this journey toward a more ethical and inclusive AI future in education. #AIEthics #AIinEducation #ResearchCollaboration #AIforGood #InnovationInEducation

Today I am thrilled to announce an exciting new research collaboration with Liverpool Hope University and Universidad del Norte. Together, we will explore the factors that influence educators' decisions to adopt or not adopt intelligent solutions in their teaching practices. What are the promising and exciting tools that educators at all levels are eager to embrace? On the other hand, what fears hold them back—from concerns about job displacement to worries about data biases or even digital imperialism? This is an inspiring project that, beyond being valuable from a market analysis perspective through our conversations with leading institutions, also opens the door to the broader concept of AI for Good. At Squirro, we are committed to ensuring that this dialogue with institutions across the globe helps us understand how we can be both respectful and ethical in such a sensitive and crucial field as education. Special thanks to Lee Mackenzie, Heydy Selene Robles Noriega, and Karen Villalba, who will be joining me on this exciting journey! #AIforEducation #AIforGood #EdTech #Innovation #DigitalEthics https://lnkd.in/dihi85mD

🚀 AI in Education: An LLM Consensus on Strategy 🚀 After sharing a call to action for a survey about AI literacy in education (https://lnkd.in/e-aNpWDc), I received a thought-provoking challenge from Charles McLachlan: “What strategies do you believe are essential for responsibly integrating AI into schools and colleges, ensuring it enhances learning outcomes while maintaining ethical standards?” Instead of a quick reply on that post comment, and instead of going to our education specialists in the #ICEAICollective, I thought it would be a great experiment to challenge the recently upgraded LLMs each with the same prompt for their insights, something I haven’t done for a while (ChatGPT, Gemini, Bing Copilot and Claude). Of course, I employed the top-notch Prompt Engineering and Power Prompting techniques from my AI webinars 😉. The result? Quite a surprising consensus across LLMs, echoing the strategies I had anticipated. The odd nuance difference here or there but a good 95% consistency across them all. Here’s a distilled list of ‘our’ collective wisdom (the full response is much richer): 1. Personalized Learning Pathways: Utilize AI to craft individualized learning experiences based on each student's unique needs, preferences, and pace, enhancing engagement and effectiveness. 2. Teacher Augmentation: Implement AI tools to automate administrative tasks and provide insights into student performance, allowing teachers to focus on personalized teaching. 3. Foster Ethical AI Education: Integrate ethics of AI use into the curriculum, teaching students not only how to use AI but also to understand its societal impacts, ethical considerations, and the importance of data privacy. 4. Promote Digital Literacy and AI Readiness: Prepare students for a future with AI by incorporating digital literacy and AI readiness into the core curriculum. This includes teaching coding, data literacy, and critical thinking skills. 5. Inclusive AI Tools: Ensure AI educational tools are accessible to all students, including those with disabilities, to support diverse learning needs and styles. 6. Collaborative AI Policy Development: Develop AI policies in collaboration with a broad spectrum of stakeholders to ensure they are reflective of community values and educational goals. 7. Implement Continuous Feedback Loops: Create mechanisms for continuous feedback from students, teachers, and parents on the effectiveness and ethical considerations of AI tools used in education. I'm no pedagogue, but as a strategist, these findings validate the power of AI to augment human expertise, requiring our insight for final validation. 👉🏻 What's the best GenAI benefit you've discovered in your work? Change Management Consultant | Bridging Change and AI | Key Leadership & Employee Communications Partner | Harnessing Data Analytics for Strategic Impact
🎓 Very excited to share my educational milestone! 🎉 I’m delighted to announce that I’ve completed the Artificial Intelligence Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. This has been an incredibly enriching and rewarding educational journey. The program skillfully covered topics of great relevance and timeliness, while also imparting a substantial depth of knowledge within a notably brief timeframe. Throughout the last 7 weeks, the program has not just met but surpassed my initial expectations, furnishing me with essential insights for my change management consulting. These insights are key to helping individuals and organizations not only embrace but fully flourish in utilizing AI technology. In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, no technological advancement holds more transformational potential for the workplace than artificial intelligence. This general-purpose technology has the potential to create transformative impacts akin to the invention of automobiles and the subsequent development of our entire transportation landscape. The program offered a comprehensive exploration of AI’s history, dating back to the seminal work by Alan Turing. It provided a solid grounding in the intricacies of deep learning and neural networks, its strategic implications for business, and a thorough exploration of the implications of its integration in the workplace. Moreover, it placed a commendable emphasis on the ethical considerations and far-reaching implications that AI can have on society as a whole. I extend my sincere gratitude to Peter Morgan, Darsh Kodwani and Professor Matthias Holweg, as well as the entire facilitator team, for curating this exceptional program. Their commitment to excellence has provided me with a deeper understanding of AI’s vast possibilities, enabling me to better navigate the profound changes it will bring to the professional world. #OxfordSaidBusinessSchool #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #ChangeManagement #OCM #ChangeLeadership #CCMP #AIinBusiness #AIAdoption #AIandChangeManagement #BusinessTransformation #AIInnovation #Leadership #ContinuousLearning #Education #Celebration #OrgaizationalChange #DigitalTransformation #Intelligenceartificielle #Gestionduchangement #AIEthics

“We are trying to find a way to stop AI use by students in the classroom.” This comment came from a risk interview with a faculty member at a higher ed client. I’m sure not all faculty share this sentiment, but it was telling of this individual’s view of AI’s place in the classroom. It made me think of Kaplan and Miles’ three broad categories of risk: preventable, strategic, and external. Preventable risks are internal and undesirable. As such, they should be avoided or eliminated. Strategic risks are internal and desirable. This means they are intrinsic to the mission-critical activities of an organization and taken in hopes of achieving an outsized benefit or return. Did that faculty member see AI as a preventable or strategic risk? How does the college as a whole view the risk? I’d argue that treating AI as exclusively preventable is fruitless and likely foolish. It’s like saying you’ll try to stop the wind from blowing — it’s just not going to happen. Strategic risks require a treatment approach that seeks to identify the causes and consequences of undesirable outcomes. Once identified, the organization can implement tactics meant to reduce the likelihood and impact of those potentially negative outcomes. BUT, this treatment exercise is done with the understanding that the goal is to exploit the uncertainty (AI, in this case) and not eliminate it. In this example, if faculty spends all its time and effort on eliminating cases of academic dishonesty through AI use (this is important) rather than getting ahead of the pedagogical implications (opportunity) they will quickly find themselves losing relevance and impact. This is just one small example of why it’s critical for boards and leadership teams to have open, informed dialogue about emerging uncertainties (risks) and establish the organization’s tolerance/appetite to pursue and/or eliminate the risk. Kaplan and Miles’ framework is just one way to frame those conversations. #AI #RiskManagement #HigherEd

AI is transforming the business world. At the Lazaridis School, we’re preparing tomorrow’s leaders to leverage AI responsibly and innovatively. As part of AACSB Business Education Week, we are proud to highlight how our faculty and researchers are incorporating AI into student learning: 💜 Trish McLaren, professor of business technology management and associate vice president, academic at Laurier is playing a key role in creating and introducting Laurier’s Responsible Use of AI Guidelines. These guidelines will ensure our students and researchers are using AI ethically and responsibly, preparing for the future with integrity. 💛 Tripat Gill, professor of marketing and Laurier research chair in consumer insights and innovation, is exploring AI’s potential in consumer behaviour, helping us understand how AI can be used effectively in business decision-making. His findings suggest that the potential value of generative AI may be hindered by human ego when used for creative marketing tasks. 💜 Brandon Mattalo, assistant professor of strategic management, and director of the Lazaridis Intellectual Property Lab is incorporating AI tools directly into his courses, giving students hands-on experience with technologies that will redefine industries and careers. “Gen AI is going to require all of us to use higher-order thinking,” he says. “Students will have to use AI to implement their ideas. It will become increasingly important to learn how to strategize, rather than just complete tasks.” 💛 Rima Khatib, assistant professor of business technology management, investigates the role of AI in education, looking at how these tools can enhance the quality of student learning experiences and shape the future of teaching. **Generative AI was used in the creation of this post #AACSBBusinessEducationWeek #LeadBoldly #AACSBAccredited #AIinBusiness #ResponsibleAI #FutureReady

2moSo well said. Thank you for sharing this, Studiosity and thank you Jared Cooney Horvath, PhD, MEd for simply expressing what we all know intuitively... there is no way to think creatively or critically without a core body of knowledge in one's head. The idea that there's no need to learn or remember "facts" or "ideas" because information is readily accessible online (or via AI) is absurd and also backward. We've seen over the last 25 years where such thinking has gotten us in terms of global educational outcomes. Let's stop making that mistake and rather when we think about edtech we focus on AI to augment human capabilities, not to offload cognitive effort.
