Friday was the last day of term for many young Londoners - also one of the hottest days of the year. As their peers finished school at lunchtime and headed off into a sunny afternoon, it was inspiring to see so many talented and ambitious young people at their "Graduation" from City, University of London's inaugural Lord Mayor & Liveries' Future Professionals Summer School. Welcomed into the cool and historic The Tallow Chandlers' Company's Hall, we were greatly honoured the Lord Mayor of London Professor Michael Mainelli presided. The Liveries have been working to assure the City of London can access the #talent it needs for #business #practice and the #professions to thrive for, in many cases, hundreds of years. Speaking with the young people at the Summer School, it was access to #professional people, #expert #career #advice and prompts to imagine their futures they valued most. I doubt much has changed! Many brilliant colleagues and inspiring #student ambassadors of City, University of London contributed to launching the Summer School and the support of the City of London Corporation and the Liveries has been invaluable. We hope the resounding #success of the programme will be a platform for further #growth. In the meantime however, please join me in sending the Future Professionals of the Lord Mayor & Liveries Summer School our #congratulations and wishing them every #success. #leadership #university #highereducation #education #socialmobility #apprenticeships #London #engineering #technology #law #finance #supplychain #networking #skills #media #creativeindustries #inclusion #podcasting #journalism #cybersecurity #computerscience #socialcare #health Bayes Business School The City Law School #employability

Our Managing Director Neil McShane spoke to BBC NI’s Clodagh Rice about the rise in purpose-built student accommodation in Belfast and whether we could still see further investment in these developments in future. Based on our research, when this type of student development first arrived in Belfast back in 2016, the ratio was 1 bed for every 10 students. At that time cities like Cardiff had a ratio of 1 bed for every 5 students. By the end of this year, the ratio will have dropped to 1 bed for every 5 in Belfast and will reduce further based on what is in the planning pipeline. With our universities saying there is still growing demand for university places, it’s conceivable that even the current pipeline won’t meet demand. The government's number one aim is to grow the economy... But what can we as a uni do about it? We used our talented PGT students to look deeper into an organisation. To provide insight. To provide meaning. To provide impact. 200 students each creating a two page consultation document. Two interns hired. Both were given extra hours due to their magnificent contribution. Ohh I should mention in terms of visibility: - A key part of university wide newsletter to all staff - A section of a university lead news story dedicated to it - Two public case studies - Two posts on LinkedIn with over 10,000 combined views - Both stories will be used within recruitment to highlight Sheffield as a place where innovation is at its core - And picked up by employability experts at grad consult (Shout out to Gabi Binnie) Well done Molly Hanson and Huiting YANG you both have bright bright futures ahead of you. I wonder if David Walsh is interested in this story? Showcasing one of the biggest employers providing expertise to facilitate growth outside of the STEM sector. Tracy Viner, I can't wait to see what we can get up to with work related learning driven by the likes of Tim Herrick, Caoimhe Nic Dháibhéid and Rebecca Freeman. Leahs Yard *cough. I want to do something with you.
Feeling rather famous today🤩✨ I’m very excited to see my experience working with Sheffield Students’ Union be uploaded onto the website today (this kind of thing has never happened to me before). I’ve always been quite reserved and shy about having my photo being taken or sharing my work and achievements, and the idea of being broadcasted on the Uni of Sheffield website would have horrified me a year ago, but I’m learning to embrace the discomfort and celebrate myself sometimes. Im so honoured to have had the opportunity to have worked with the #1 Student Union in the UK and the amazing people working there. A big Thankyou to Richard Copley, Steve Battersby, Gavin Simpson-Smillie, and particularly Lauren Simpson-Smillie (also many people behind the scenes) for being the most supportive and accommodating team. I’m so proud of the end result for this project, and very hopeful for what the Sheffield can achieve and what it might bring for future students. Sharing a case study I wrote last month on how the University of Stirling are using Pathways to enhance how prospective students explore and visualise their future career options. 😉 With some nice words from Nick McLean and Graeme Forrest on the value they see, both in terms of implementation and student engagement. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eNA8-Xas #Pathways #GraduateDestinations #YourFutureCareer #HEMarketing
