When helping Veterans navigate the pivot from military to civilian life, I ALWAYS point them to James Proby and The Men's Xchange. The reasons are easy: --James is a pillar in the Colorado Springs community and easily integrates the messages of dressing for success, meaningful employment, inclusivity, and community engagement. --The prices are very affordable (for example, $40 sport coats), especially for Veterans who are going from certainty to extreme uncertainty in employment. --Many do not know their sizes; James and Malek measure and document each person's sizes so that they can wear nice clothes appropriately. --On-site tailor who will make sure your new clothes have a custom fit. --James is a huge supporter of Veterans; he donates his time and energy to Veteran transition programs like Onward To Opportunity. Veterans, walk into the store, tell James or Malek that Chip told you to go in, and enjoy learning something about life from them every single time you visit. #VeteransHelpingVeterans #DressForSuccess #Veterans https://lnkd.in/gcge9kUi

Beards - Hair - Nails - Eye Lashes: What differentiates 'Faddish' from 'Professional'? I value uniformity, especially since I joined the military, and I appreciate the structure it provides. However, I am not a fan of policies that negatively impact a race or gender. You probably are not either. Often this isn’t intentional. Rather a way of not considering other perspectives. The Air Force initially struggled to modernize women's hair standards, as they were largely modeled after Caucasian hair types. As a result, the bulk requirements failed to accommodate the average African-American woman's hair or other ethnicities with similar hair types. Essentially, the regulation not intending, implied that other types of natural hair was unprofessional. The Air Force later rectified this oversight, but other barriers persist. For instance, medical condition-based beard waivers disproportionately affect African-American men. Until last year individuals with waivers were banned from duties like honor guard. 👉 Let me be the first to say - I did not understand this until late in my career. ⁉️ Before deeming someone unprofessional based on their appearance, consider a few questions. ➡️ Does appearance impede their ability to fulfill their duties effectively? ➡️ Is this judgment largely affecting individuals of a particular gender or race? ➡️ Ask yourself if your dislike is simply because it's different from what you're used to, or because it challenges traditional norms. It was decided the other year eyelash length regulations were needed. Women had served officially since 1948 without eyelash regulations until then. If you had to regulate eyelash length given they vary in natural length considerably, how would you do it? Just food for thought. HairStory: The USAF Tactical Cap Dear Base Commanders, As some of you implement local polices to restrict wear of the United States Air Force-approved Tactical Caps, let me help you. It’s me. Hi. I’m the problem. It’s me. The Base Commander who persisted for years to get the Tactical Cap approved for wear. Why? Simple. One size does NOT fit all. Many of you have the luxury of bi-weekly “3 on the top, 1 on the sides” touchups or the clean shave, so one hat works. For people with thick, wavy hair that grows like a chia-pet with just a hint of humidity, a cap with a mesh back and an adjustable band prevents from having multiple hats throughout the day. It also alleviates the multiple product reapplications throughout the day to keep hair tight that causes headaches, hair loss, and a growing forehead. I get it, you may not have that challenge. That is why I combed out my hair into all of her full afro glory for our smooth-headed United States Air Force (USAF) senior leaders to demonstrate how much I shift and shape myself daily to serve. Seeing is believing - see your Airmen locally for yourself. Our USAF Leaders approved it at CORONA. I am listening to understand why you don’t. For those that deny Defenders the Tactical Cap, I encourage you to stand watch at the gate at the height of hot/humid/wet weather in a wool beret with a leatherish band and no bill . . . can you rise to your best? Safety outweighs heritage. We need the best of America’s talent to serve in our formations if democracy is going to win, to include the thick, wavy-haired talent. Maybe that is why there were only 3 Afro-abled women out of nearly 300 base commanders that stayed to serve at that level while I was in base command and still none at the CORONA decision-making table. To improve the less than 20% of women in military service, let’s work together to remove barriers like the hat so all qualified Americans with the propensity have #TheFreedomToServe! Reach out, I’m happy to help! https://lnkd.in/emC3Vz-G

I'm the idiot that put the ponytail opening at the TOP of hat 🌹Making you question functional design, racism, and misogyny through headwear🌹Founder of Rosebloom Headwear🌹
"I know Victoria's secret. She was made up by a dude." I had the great pleasure of chatting with Nancy C. Pingitore from League One Volleyball today, who made that quote relevant during our conversation. Nancy is my kinda gal. Funny, easy to talk to, immediately relatable. But... how does that relate to hats? I explained that Rosebloom Headwear is filling a huge gap in the hat industry simply because ⚪ men running the major hat companies lack the experience of being female or having enough hair to build hats that represent those categories. Further, their C suites lack enough #representation of #women and the #GlobalMajority to have their voices heard. Nancy laughed and said Victoria's secret is out, like the song! I had to look it up. An artist named Jax, who I am familiar with, wrote a song with a similar sentiment. Focusing on Victoria's Secret and the harmful body image messaging they promote by producing women's lingerie in the image of what a man visualizes as appealing, rather than from the needs of those who are actually wearing it, Jax sends a strong message wrapped in catchy pop-rock burrito. TL,DR: #RepresentationMatters. The folks using your products should have an incredibly strong hand in designing, using, testing them. Also, if you haven't heard Jax's cover of Teenage Dirtbag with PMJB, please check it out. You can listen to "Victoria's Secret" in it's entirety below.

I come from the "pre-Don't Ask Don't Tell" era Marine Corps. In recent days I've seen negative comments pertaining to the young Sailor highlighted in the post below. I took a moment to review the video in question. I just saw a young man, alone (except for whoever was recording, taking a brief moment to be a kid. His uniform was squared away. I thought I detected nervousness prior to him applying the lip gloss...in the end it was a brief moment of levity. No different than the Marines in this video: https://lnkd.in/gwTUUMJS (although, I do see some Marines in need of PT and haircuts). I've always been of the opinion that, so long as a person was disciplined and technically proficient, who they chose to love was irrelevant. I don't think the Sailor in the video would put on lip gloss prior to getting in formation. At least I would hope not, and therefore don't believe he deserves the negative attention. However, I will take this opportunity to highlight this article from 2019: https://lnkd.in/gwwQAXcz Marines from my era saw this coming decades ago. It started in '91 with the hyper-focus on sensitivity training for "Sexual Harassment"; compounded in '97 by the hyper-focus on "Hazing". "Sexual Harassment" and "Hazing" became the battle cries of substandard Marines, who would leverage these career-ending allegations to shift the focus away from being held accountable for their substandard performance. Good Order, Discipline, and Unit Cohesion began to suffer almost immediately. I held my Marines to an uncompromising standard of discipline, performance, and customs and courtesies. I used the same methods used to indoctrinate me into the lifestyle of an Infantry Marine. I did not "evolve" my leadership style with the Marine Corps' politically correct philosophy, and ultimately my career was limited because of it. In 2007, I disagreed with a LtCol who was lecturing the Battalion's Officers and Staff Non-Commissioned Officers about a "Hazing" incident. I highlighted how entry level Marines would go to Parade Rest while speaking to their peers in the Fleet because they expected immediate ramifications for deviations from expected standards of conduct and discipline. Yet, within a few weeks, these same Marines would need to be reminded to stand up when a LtCol walked into the room. The LtCol and I had a "professional discussion" in his office afterwards; each of us entrenched in our respective perspectives. I submit the article from 2019, highlighting the disrespect a Marine Corps Major General encountered, and the continued erosion of Marine Corps discipline, validates my position in 2007. If our military continues to celebrate individualism, the continued erosion of discipline will ultimately impact operational readiness. It's only a matter of time...the enemy is watching. Semper Fidelis. John Mayer Ben W. Lieutenant General (retired) David Furness Oscar Rodriguez Scott Packard Steven P. Rick Warmbold Gregory Agron
It was illuminating to talk to Airman Christian Sandoval, 20, about his experience with the US Navy and going viral on TikTok. He came out as gay aged 16, whilst at a performing arts school. He enlisted three days after his 18th birthday. My latest for Queerty.

#History #Colors #PersonalPreference #Corporate #Fashion Did you know that royal blue and navy blue have a long history behind their names? Neither did I until I read this :-) Royal blue is a significant shade of blue that is bright and colorful, dating back to the 17th century. Historians believe that the term came into use in 1810. This color was created for Queen Charlotte of England (references: Wikipedia) and is intertwined with her legacy. There was a competition to create a dress for the queen, and the result was a dress in royal blue. Navy blue, on the other hand, dates back to the 16th century when the British navy chose it for their uniforms. The color made its way into the Oxford Dictionary in 1813. Navy blue was also known as marine blue due to its naval associations. While royal blue is associated with royalty, authority, and tradition, it is also linked to responsibility, trust, and worthiness. Navy blue is a versatile and classic color often associated with formality, professionalism, stability, and depth. Additionally, navy blue is a gender-neutral color, making it a versatile choice for both men's and women's formal wear. It also complements a variety of other colors, making it easy to mix and match with different accessories and garments. So, which one do you prefer, tell us why ? Feel free to explore outfits with the colors that resonate with you at Indimotifs, as we believe personal preferences and choices matter the most!
