As of early 2024, there are 574 active and planned submarine cables. The number of active cables is constantly changing as new cables enter service and older cables are decommissioned.  This important infrastructure upgrade will help the region integrate and grow economically. #caribbean #caribbeanbusiness www2.telegeography.com Here are some new submarine cables in Latin America and the Caribbean: TAM-1: This 7,000 km cable will connect Florida with Central America and the Caribbean. It will have 24 fiber optic pairs and 11 landing stations. Construction has begun, and it is expected to be ready for service in 2025. Liberty Networks 1 (LN-1): This cable system is a partnership between Liberty Networks and Gold Data. It will connect the US and Latin America, providing routes between the US and Mexico, Colombia, Panama, the Caribbean, and the Southern US. It is expected to be up and running by 2026. Ocean Networks (ONI): This submarine cable system will connect Florida to Panama.

As a major investor in 5G and soon 6G networks in #Europe, Vantage Towers contributed to the European Commission public consultation on the White Paper: “How to master Europe’s digital infrastructure needs?”. Amongst several other topics, we commented in particular on: 📌 Spectrum policy & electromagnetic fields (EMF) exhaustion Harmonisation of spectrum management is a key enabler of the #DigitalSingleMarket and the limited EMF budget should be used more efficiently to increase infrastructure-based competition between operators at the same site, without changing the existing EMF limits. 📌 5G corridors 5G corridors will be important enablers for the Digital Single Market and pave the way for the “3C Network”. Several obstacles could be removed if hand-over connectivity at Member States’ borders and a permit for the full corridor were becoming a reality. Rethinking the fulfilment requirements of future spectrum obligations to allow for funded infrastructure to account for coverage targets in the case of 5G corridors would also boost the deployment of 5G connectivity alongside major transport paths. 📌 Land aggregation Access to the land on which the infrastructure is built is essential for TowerCos. While the Gigabit Infrastructure Act is a good first step, the practice of land aggregation still needs attention by policy-makers and regulators to avoid negative consequences for network rollouts and, ultimately, European end-users.
